In a latest online report via official YouTube channel, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has revealed Mike Mushok, the guitarist of American rockers Staind, as the latest addition to his new band, simply called Newsted.

Mushok will now take the position of the group's second axeman alongside Jessie Farnsworth, with the band currently planing to release their first full-length album by the end of 2013. Their debut EP release, "Metal," came out in January via iTunes, selling 6,200 copies in the US within the first week and landing on No. 62 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Apart from presenting us with the new band member, the bassist/vocalist has also announced several new European tour dates, including appearances on this year's Download Festival in the UK and Graspop Metal Meeting performance in Belgium on June 30.

As far as the new release goes, the album should soon be entering the production stage, with the release date and further details still being unknown.

"These songs are old-school metal. I went back to what I know the best and what I spent the most hours of my life doing. That's what we recorded on this. It's an in your face, raw, present kind of music. I've been working on the lyrics for many years, they have a lot of meaning and each one tells a story. I'm really proud of that part and I'm looking forward to people seeing the lyrics again. I haven't really been able to expose that kind of stuff out into the world since the Flotsam days," the bassist told Brave Words back in January.

I bet Mike was "Alright, Aaron. You have you country music, I have a new band."

EXACTLY the sound Metallica needs to come back to. Point: Jason Newstead.

Having listened to (and thoroughly enjoyed) the EP I'll say that it'll be interesting to hear what Mike will do with it live. The solos on the album totally underwhelmed me. I'm not saying I could do better by any stretch, but considering how he's touting his music as being "old school metal" I just figured the solos would be a bit more techincal. Not that speed is everything mind you. Will be interesting to see live, thats for sure.

The one who got away. So to say. Im not much for Metallica, but then again..neither is Jason anymore. This isnt even my kind of music, but Newsted kicks ass. For real.
