Steven Adler: 'Axl Is Driving GN'R Into The Ground'

The drummer sounds furious with the Guns N' Roses frontman, saying Axl will probably try to perform at their Hall Of Fame induction with "his band of hacks".

It's still unclear whether Guns N' Roses will bother performing at their induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

But one thing that seems clear is that Axl Rose is causing the hold up. Even Slash has said he will make amends and join his old bandmates on stage if the opportunity arises.

Now drummer Steven Adler has aired his views on the matter, and he says Axl is driving the band's name and reputation into the ground with his childish behaviour.

"If it was up to me, we would have been playing for the fans a long time ago. Unfortunately, I have no say in that," he told Loudwire.

"Put it this way; if the five original GN'R guys don't get up there and play, I'm going up there just on the drum set and playing a couple of songs from 'Appetite For Destruction'. It's for the fans. To me it's just a rock n' roll band, but it's a rock n' roll band that I've gotten so much love and respect from all over the world."

He went on to brand the current GN'R lineup as a bunch of hacks:

"From what I hear, Izzy [Stradlin]'s not gonna show up and Axl will probably want to play with his hack band - his band of hacks.

"'Axl and His Hacks' - it shouldn't even be Guns N' Roses. He's just driving that name into the freakin' ground. 'Axl and His Hacks'."

Hopefully this won't ruin any last chance they had of convincing Axl to shun his pride and join his old bandmates on stage. Let's just hope they get back together so we can all forgive and forget.

Because they are all credited with writing the songs, they are allowed to play them. It only becomes an issue when the performance is recorded for profit. Slash plays G'n'R songs all the time, and there's never been a lawsuit. TBH, as much as it would be cool to see them play... ain't gonna happen!

Miles Kennedy has already proven that he has a beautiful singing voice for GNR songs, so Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steve should tour with him on vocals.

I used to hate on Axl for continuing to tour under the Guns n' Roses banner, but after watching some recent performances my opinion has changed. Yes, Axl is the only original member left in the band, but c'mon, so was Tony Iommi w/ Sabbath for almost 10 years - and from what I recall, those lineups are appreciated by a lot of people here. The current band are all extremely talented musicians and they put on one hell of a show. They aren't tainting the Gn'R legacy in the slightest. As far as a Hall of Fame performance goes, you have to look at it from both perspectives. There's the fans who want a one-off performance, which is completely understandable, and then there's Axl, who has spent the last 15 odd years continuing the Gn'R legacy without Slash & co. To Axl, a reunion with the original band will undermine the current lineup completely. And of course, this is also completely understandable.

Steven is just bumped because of all the succes that he missed when he was kicked out of the band. "For the fans" he keeps saying... I don't believe a word.

But if they all got together it would only be for money so in a way I am glad they are not. Even though I think the Ultimate would be a Zeppelin/Guns tour...

From what I've read in Slash and Duffs books it seems like Izzy was really the guy who wrote a lot of the stuff on Appetite and his rhythm playing was amazing like Malcom Young with soul. He's smart for not wanting to get into the drama. Would be nice to see Guns n Roses reunite. I don't consider Axl's band to be GnR. It's not at all and his CD sucked...

steven and axl are both idiots. do you know how much money they could make from a live reunion album. Axl needs to suck it up and send the current lineup to hell and play with the classics.

C'mon, Steven. Don't you have anything else to talk about? I'd like to hear about YOUR band, not Axl's band.

I said that along time ago. The original members with Sebastian Bach would be cool. Who holds a grudge for 20 years anyway?
Have you ever heard of Jeff Young from megadeth? He holds a grudge with dave, after more than 23 years

maybe if we all hold hands and sing sweet child o mine axl's heart will increase in size and they will be able to play one last time before it all goes to shit

Who gives a F anymore!!! they are just one band in the history of RN'R....Shit Happens and that's that. If GN'R go down as an epic fail then it's Axl who let it with Dizzy F'in Reed (Who?) Was he really a big part of GN'R?? Anyway...History with write itself...let Axl do what he's gonna do...you can't change him now...not one bit. End Game!

Man, just forget about Axl, get the original lineup and Myles Kennedy to sing.

He's going to go up and play a few songs "for the fans", not because he's the most washed up member of the band, or because his careers going no where and he needs the attention by saying shit like this
    rockthelespaul
come on Izzy has to show up man. He deserves it for all the hard work he put in and come on he is GNR. Stop being the man in the dark get your gypsy ass out there and rock the f out that bitch

Steven Adler is the third best drummer to play with Guns N' Roses. He's an addict who routinely whines about not being able to play with a band that fired his sorry self a long time ago. Quite sad, really.

Everybody listen the **** up. I saw axl and friends last november and they completly blew my mind. every current member is so talented. people need to take the time to actually listen to chinese democracy to recongnize its sheer brilliance. slash is a great guitarist but all three of the current guitarists completely blow him away. people who actually have seen and listened to the new line up would agree with me.

You want a reunion but you payout his band? That wont get a reunion Steven..

Whether or not you are a decent guy and Adler is a tool, you're making Adler look like a decent guy by talking like a tool.

i thought this was a guitar site so why all the hate for GN'R? They have Ron Thal, and Buckethead plays on some songs on CD (witch is a great album). ps. Steven is a dick

Sound like hes whinning like a baby...I saw them in their last concert and they rocked it

I still dont even get why Axl is liked by anyone. All throughout his years he's been nothing but a class A ****ing douchebag.
    Jemstar
I wish people would stop saying that Axl's new band suck... they are all accomplished musicians and Ron Thal is a great guitar player. Steven Adler is however a washed up loser whose drug addiction ruined his life and apparently he cant let it go.

Most, if not all, addicts are self-absorbed jerks. Or maybe, it's the "disease;" but what's sad is that when they've had the "disease" since they were teenagers, it's difficult/impossible to separate the person from the disease. Also, I've seen Steven on Celebrity Rehab and such. His addiction is tied intimately to his music/performing. It's sad. I don't think he'll ever be clean as long as he's playing music; and I don't know of anything else he knows how to do.

Put yourself in Adler's shoes. You were in one of the most badass L.A rock n roll bands and put out a genre-defining record that would be remembered for decades to come. You lived the rock n roll life of excess and extacy just like your band of brothers. You went from starving in abandoned buildings to having everything you could ever want.....then you lost it all. It's pretty safe to say that if that happened to somebody they couldn't live it down for a long, long time. Appetite for Destruction largely put GnR in the Hall of Fame and Steve was a part of that. Having said that,he belongs at that induction just as much as Axl, Slash, Izzy, and Duff.

G 'N R, Axl Rose, that band has long been in the ground, the current line up should be called Axl and the LOSERS !!!! they SUCK !!!!

axl is a guy with a shitty attitude, childish actions, and then there is a killer rock singer. the first two out weigh the third.he is an ***** cause he wants to be. thats it.but i was here in 1987. i saw guns and aerosmith. it was my first show. guns were unreal. i went to the mall the next day an bought appetite an the rest is history that i was a part of. so i hope they can overcome the bullshit and rock that place.

That's the point, they arent Guns 'N' Roses, but yet they're playing under that name, riding on the back of GnR's fame, not creating a new band and making their own way through the music industry, like they should be. In my opinion, get the original lineup back and swap Axl for Myles Kennedy, that would be f*cking amazing. Liam

Ironic that the first member to get kicked out due to his own excessive excesses, indulgences, and personality quirks is pointing the finger at Axl... I'm not an Axl fan at all but in essence Adler started the demise of the band in the first place since Adler was probably the only one in the band vocal enough to call Axl out on bullshit (or bullshit period)... who knows maybe the might have been together still if Adler didn't get kicked out? Point being Adler is being hypocritical to judge Axl since he played a part in the first iteration's demise... besides Adler should know Gun's and Roses doesn't exist anymore Axl just has the rights to the name the old band doesn't existits the same name with only Axl. In a legal sense Gun's and Roses "1" doesn't exist, this is Gun's and Roses "2". Axl made everyone sign over the rights to the Guns name if every original member (besides himself) left the band. Vis a vis, he now has the sole rights.
    6-String_Madman
...Then it all crashes down And you break your ground And you point your finger but there's no one around Just want one thing, just to play the king But the castle's crumbled and you're left with just "a name"... WHERE'S YOUR CROWN, KING AXL? NOTHING!!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
