Ticketmaster has been criticised for charging fans £2.50 to print tickets at home.

The fee has been attacked by fans who will now have to pay extra to receive a service they are delivering themselves. The fee charged for printing is often little less than it costs to have them delivered.

Consumer watchdog Which? has spoken out against the charge, saying: "We believe companies shouldn't charge extra to print off tickets and should include costs in the headline price."

Ticketmaster hit back at the criticism, however, stating that a "lack of understanding" from the public was behind the unrest. They stated that the £2.50 fee covers admin costs at their end as well as the cost reading and validating tickets at the venues.

A Ticketmaster spokesperson said: "Without these systems in place, there is a risk that multiple copies of the same ticket could gain access to the event. Our clients do not usually pay Ticketmaster separately for supplying this technology and service."

The latest change in ticketing charges comes in the same week as The Rolling Stones were attacked for charging between £90 and £375 per ticket for their forthcoming London dates.

The band will perform two nights at London's 02 Arena on November 25 and 29 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They will also be playing two nights at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey in the US on December 13 and 15.

Thanks to NME for the report.

How bout they instead include it in the service charge, which in itself is a rip-off

So they're charging ~4 bucks PER TICKET so they can pay for ticket readers (which they obviously have) and some computer server to validate them so that a ticket code gets in only one time. Totally not overcharging, certainly not after $15 service charge. gtfo

Add Ticketweb to the list too. With them you get charged 1.50 "postage" whether you have the ticket sent to you in the post or via email. You'd think the 1.50 postage wouldn't apply if it's being sent to you via email.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. I would print my tickets, but if they're going to charge me regardless, I might as well just get a ticket stub mailed to me that I can keep as memorabilia.

Ticketmaster is such a POS. I feel like they just keep doing whatever the hell they want. And 99% of the time when someone tries to call BS on them, Ticketmaster still wins and nothing happens except for more "fees." Whose summer homes and private jet are these stupid fees paying for now?

i remember when you had to wait in line for hours to get a ticket for a show you wanted to go, then go to the door and someone checked them and you were done. Then, they offered the option of getting them online, so you wouldn't have to wait in line for hours, and you could print them at home, then take them to the venue in your hand, and get them checked at the door. Now they charge you for a service which, from the beginning, is what they did, is what the company was all about... i don't want to live on this planet anymore...

I would love to see the "service fee" refunds everyone was supposed to get from the last 3 years or so. I never saw that actually happen. I also love how when an event goes on sale and tickets are advertised between 44 and 68 dollars, the 68 dollar ticket comes to around 90 bucks. Not to mention when tickets go on sale right at 10 am and you go to get tickets, they only sell seats in the back of the arena and say those are the best available besides $250 dollar VIP ticket. Sorry but fans shouldn't have to pay $250 dollars to get a seat within the first 15 rows then to come find out someone paid $60 the day before the show and is sitting closer to you. VIP seats are only worth it if you get to meet the band

shouldnt have to pay any extras fees unless of course it has to deal with overnight delivery in the mail or something of that sort...and you always get that $10 surcharge fee, and some venues even add their own fees on top of that...it's ridiculous, it should be face value and that's it

    I don't understand why it's causing so much uproar. It's only 2.50 for God's sake :S

well when you're already paying a $10 fee and sometimes other fees on top of that, it's like a slap in the face that they cant even let you print off your own ticket for free...that's why I believe people are so upset over it
