Tom Morello Wants 10,000 Guitarists For Protest

Tom Morello has called for 10,000 guitarists to join him in New York today, and you can join him. The Rage Against The Machine guitarist wants to conduct a huge May Day demonstration as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The first rehearsal in New York will be at Bryant Park at noon. "Don't have a guitar? Bring a drum," he tweeted. "No drum? Bring a kazoo. No kazoo? Just come." The impromptu occupation of New York today will also feature a march from Union Square to Lower Manhattan. Morello has been supporting the movement since it began in September last year, and has since been seen performing at other Occupy protests including those in London and Los Angeles. The Occupy protests intend to highlight social and economic inequality, and seeks to expose corruption in the government and financial sector. Other musicians to pledge their support at OccupyMusicians.com include Lou Reed, Amanda Palmer, members of Fugazi and Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys.
Will you be joining the biggest band in the world today? Be sure to pass the details on to other guitarists and help Tom Morello make history with the biggest rock protest ever. If UG readers in New York take part today, make sure you let us know how the rehearsal went in the comments.

So the people who protest dont work hard? A good few of them were in the exact same position as you are now, full of determination and aspiration. Yet thanks to a greedy few, they were laid off or whatever. Dont just think that because they sit around all day that they're slackers.

The Occupy movement has many flaws, but if anything, its completely against "giving" to anybody, rich, poor, you name it. Its merely out there to point out the social economic inequality's and how the big businesses/banksters have looted this country dry. Its not saying "Oh your Rich, give me money". Its saying "Why on earth am I making $50,000 a year and paying FAR more taxes then big-corporations that are making billions upon billions a year? You realize Goldmen Sachs paid 1.1% taxes last year. You call that fair? Like it or not, ALL of you are part of the 99%. You can call the Occupy protesters "lazy", but atleast they are doing something about it rather then, posting comments on the internet.

I don't agree with the occupy movement, but that is some classic 60's protest awesomeness.

Yeah Occupy is a pretty average protest. They don't have any plans or anything as to what they want, it's just "give us more and the rich people less."

Oh, and a large reason why the Occupy protests are there to begin with ARE because of the fact that there are no jobs in this country. So saying "Occupy a Job" is pretty much the stupidest thing you can say. THATS WHY THEY ARE IN THE STREETS TO BEGIN WITH! THERE ARE NO JOBS!

Funny thing is that whole percentage thing. Goldman-Sach's 1.1% (and I am skeptical about this statistic, but I digress) probably equals more than 50% of what you're making. And fair? Really? News flash buddy: economics isn't about being fair. This whole "social equality" bullshit is how countries end up socialist and ruled by dictators who make a "fair" system where everyone makes the same amount of money no matter what they do and thus have absolutely no motivation. The reason people act or work hard is because they're trying to accomplish a goal, whether it be to make a higher salary or improve their standing in life or just get by in life. If you make the system equal, fair, and all Barney the dinosaur with unicorns and rainbows, the only motivation is going to be work to stay alive, which would suck and you know that. Why punish someone for working their ass off their whole life to get where they are other than for the reason that you're just jealous they were more motivated and more successful than you?

really, if you're against the ideologies embodied by the occupy movement, you're either a rich ***** or a total idiot who still thinks that working hard will guarantee that you get ahead in life. american capitalism is nothing more than a pyramid scheme at this point. not everyone can be at the top, and we need to make sure that people can actually LIVE on whatever wages they earn. here's a pretty good article from cracked for you all to read: http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-things-ric... p-saying/

Why does it have to be a protest? Why doesn't he just organize it for fun? Hopefully he will try to sync everyone up so it's not the wankathon I'm expecting.

    Scary Guy
Saying "why punish someone for working their arse off" is more barney unicorn fantasy shit i have ever heard. Why do need to be rewarded for working your ass off. Do it cause u want to cure cancer or be a rock star etc etc not ****n money and you know thats ur only goal more money don't beat around the bush...money is your motivation cause what u are saying is that you wouldn't work your arse off unless you were greatly rewarded for it which pretty much makes u worse than less motivated people.
