Tool Post New Album Update, Confirm 'A Lot of Progress'

A lengthy update on Tool's official website recently confirmed that the band is making headway with the new record, particularly focusing on an "epic" piece that's reportedly been in the works for a long time. "I am happy to report that there has indeed been a lot of progress as far as new material goes, especially with the lengthy so-called 'epic' piece that the guys have been arranging for quite some time now," webmaster's post reads. The webmaster described his recent visit to the Tool loft, saying, "Shortly after I arrived, before taking to their respective instruments, Adam suggested that everyone should first have a listen to what they had recorded during the previous session in order to make sure that all were in agreement with certain recently added sections. And listen they did.

"In fact, to give you some idea – my parking meter expired twice before they were done. And judging from the smiles on their faces, it seemed that, for the most part, Danny, Adam and Justin liked very much what they were hearing and that after some finishing touches, the 'epic' tune would be ready for Maynard to do his thing.

"After a bit of discussion about some rapid-fire triplets in one section, I asked Danny if he was going to be able to knock out the piece in one take when it came time to track it? His response was to smile and bury his head in his hands, which I will let the readers interpret for themselves. As for the song itself, without giving too much away, it features complex time signatures, interesting harmonic structure and expanding effects processing – similar to what fans of Tool have come to expect – only now, perhaps not surprisingly, the band has taken it to the next level."
However, the post also stressed that the studio entrance or album release date are still unknown. "Okay, having given you this bit of an update, please note that I am not suggesting in any way that the band is ready to go into the studio any time soon. I honestly have no idea as far as any recording timetables go. I am also not sure how many other songs are near completion at this point." The webmaster further explained, "I am also not sure how many other songs are near completion at this point. Nor do I know at what stage the vocals might be at for ANY of the new material. All I am saying is that as far as this one particular song goes (albeit, a very lengthy one), it was a lot closer to being finished (instrumentally, speaking) than the last time that I heard it, and that fans of Tool's music will certainly not be disappointed." As previously reported, frontman Maynard James Keenan confirmed "music happening on all fronts," including not only Tool, but A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. So it's major headway and the next level, at least for the mentioned epic piece. Share your thoughts in the comments.

Great news, take all the time you need Tool. It seems like they are really working on, and putting time into the material, rather than just doing nothing and slopping it together at the last minute. This is a great sign that the material will be as good as everyone expects it to be.

The kids have no patience these days.

Talk about patience. Artists had to release a new album + a Christmas single every year in the 60s.

Remember in the 60s when bands like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin recorded two killer albums per year. (nix Green Day's trilogy of records last year. Those were pretty lame.)

No disrespect to those bands, but Tool isn't exactly the Beatles or Zeppelin.

    no, Tool is better

I don't know about "better"; that's awfully subjective. They just have a different way of approaching things and a significantly more complex style. I do prefer Tool over those bands, though.

'Gonna wait it out' jokes in 3,2,1...

If there was nothing more to get from them, no lovely as music still to come, this tedious state of being a 'fan', i certainly would have walked away by now.

To be fair, anyone who was a kid when 10,000 Days came out ain't a kid no more.

Yeah, how can you be a Tool fan and not expect to wait damn near a decade for new material. It's just how it is.

Because man it used to be the consistent 6 year wait, now it's going to some magic formula x= year wait. You know how tool fans love those number theories! Can't wait for this shit to drop!

I can wait on Tool. Everything Tool is, in my opinion, phenomenal! I only expect hours of listening to the "new album" and trying to wrap my head around it (drooling).

ASDASFASDADADSFAS TOOOOOL. I couldn't care less about whether other people like Tool or not if I tried. I mean really tried. Their jams complete me. I'm a video gamer. As such, I'm used to delayed release dates and long periods of time in between new developments. I waited for Duke Nukem for ****s sake, and anyone who's familiar with that knows how long it took and what a letdown it was. Don't care. Ten years of excitement, even if the end result was disappointing. I expect Tool won't disappoint, but I also expect the wait is gonna have me more amped than a cheerleader at a pep rally. The longer it takes, the more effort they'll be putting into it, the better the result. While that's not a guarantee, it's very likely.

wow man, im sorry to say it, but that sounds like a really sad life. Who waits 10 years for a video game? as if theres nothing else to do!

Who says he does nothing but wait? You can keep yourself busy with other games while you're waiting.

New Tool is always worth the wait. Those dude's are crazy, whatever they concoct will be worth the wait.

Tool need to make a European tour which includes Sweden when they've released the album!

I literally could not have asked for more. If it lives up to expectations, it could no doubt be in my top 3 favourite albums of all time.

We've been getting "updates" for far too long. I've lost interest. It's not out until it's out.

They are so full of shit, I'm not even looking forward to this 'new album' anymore /tool

When I first read this I thought it sounded so good it must be a trick, however the dial back at the end has given me some hope, I swear if it's a ruse again I will feel slightly more diss appointed that I have to wait a bit longer for this album.
    rebreh
I'm kind of worried that in the slight chance the album underwhelms that fans will be angry. At this point, Tool better put out the best thing ever

Well considering all the hype at this point, I think people are bound to have their complaints; people didn't truly give 10,000 Days the respect it deserved until years later.
