Tool's Danny Carey Recruited by Primus to Drum on Select Dates for Upcoming US Tour

He will replace Tim Alexander who's suffered a heart attack last month.

Danny Carey has just been confirmed to play drums for Primus during a handful of September US tour dates. Longtime Primus drummer Tim Alexander, who also plays with Maynard James Keenan's Puscifer, suffered a heart attack last month, successfully undergoing open heart surgery. Alexander is expected to make a full recovery, but he will be resting up while Primus entertains the masses with Danny Carey manning the kit.

"The mighty Tim 'Herb' Alexander is a polyrhythmic Viking of extreme and unique talent so the one person that we thought could step into his shoes and do it justice is the one and only Mr. Danny Carey," Primus frontman Les Claypool tells Rolling Stone (via Loudwire). "Whereas Herb is the stocky, Easter Island-faced, boulder of a drumming human, at nearer to seven feet, Danny Carey is the mighty redwood tree of percussion; towering over his kit like a golden-haired noble spruce."

Claypool continues, "I can't wait to see that menacing grin of Danny's shine out as we pound our way through 'Here Come the Bastards' and 'Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers.' He's a dear old friend and we are extremely excited to have him aboard, and I would wager we are equally if not more intrigued than most by what kind of sounds are going to come out of the three of us once we actually get in a room together and do more than just consume fancy booze."

Primus will release their "Willy Wonka"-inspired album, "Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble," on Oct. 21.

As for Tool's highly anticipated new album, the band continues to brainstorm and write. Guitarist Adam Jones recently stated that the jam sessions are "a little more metal sounding" while Carey expressed that he's "having fun drumming on it."

The second best drummer replaced by the best. It's closer than people think too, though Herb is Herb and really the best Primus will always be with Herb. Nice that these bands path's cross like this.
AAAAHHH! im so existed i just thought i was gonna see primus. but danny carey to??? my dream night.
A little more metal sounding... I like it. 10,000 days was I think their darkest/slowest album and it's good to 'get out of the depths' and hear something with tons of energy after that.
