Trent Reznor Dissappointed by Death Grips' Split: 'Why Would I Have Ever Thought Those Dudes Could Keep It Together?'

Death Grips were due to support Nine Inch Nails on major US tour this month.

Trent Reznor has commented on the sudden breakup of Death Grips.

The California noise group were due to support Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden on their 24-date co-headline tour of the USA, which begins in Las Vegas on July 19 and concludes on August 25 in Los Angeles, but the band last night announced an immediate split, saying "we are now at our best and so Death Grips is over."

Reznor took to Twitter soon after to issue the message: "Sorry everyone ... why would I have ever thought those dudes could keep it together?"

Death Grips' career was characterised by unpredictable behaviour, from leaking their own album "No Love Deep Web" (complete with a cover image of an erect penis) to "performing" a number of shows in which they set up their equipment but failed to appear on stage, usually resulting in the trashing of their gear.

A replacement support act for the Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden tour has not yet been announced.

As much as I like Death Grips, I think they take not-giving-a-f*ck just a little bit too far.
Exactly. Some people are like "oh well that's just being rock 'n roll man" or "that's just a show of artistic maturity and integrity", what a load of bollocks that is.
Artistic maturity and integrity would involve playing shows you are booked for. You're supposed to be sharing your product with people (and they're paying you for your time).
I think they did it just right. I'm a music addict and I had never heard of them and now I will check out their stuff. Well played band.
You'd think music addicts would avidly search for music, not listen to whatever makes the headlines.
This band was the epitome of not giving a **** and it was great when they did it to the labels - considering how labels often treat bands - but screwing over their own fans by not showing up to scheduled performances was a bit much. Bought tickets to Time Festival in Toronto two weeks from now just to see them. Oh well.
Yeah, I thought that screwing over their own labels was mildly amusing and a reminder that shit like that can work both ways.
I was looking forward to seeing them in Camden, NJ. Thought that NIN/SoundGarden/DeathGrips was an awesome lineup.
What!? just got into them not so long ago. I was preparing to see them live on that tour, so much for that. Pretty good group though, glad I found them. A good replacement would be the band "Failure". I hope so!
Failure would be the best replacement, they've just put out some new stuff and even back in the day they were massively underrated.
Wait... Death Grips called it a day? Hell, I stay away from the internet for one week and it suddenly feels like I've been living under a rock since 1989. Sad news man, couldn't even go to one of their concerts.
From what everyone else has been saying, even if you did get to go to one of their concerts, there's no guarantee they'd actually play.
It disappoints me to see bands cancel or not show up to major shows or tours like this. I know if my band ever had opportunities even 1/10 as good as the one's Death Grips has been presented with we would just be way too grateful to mess it up
I feel like these guys probably broke a record for only playing about 10% of the shows they booked.
    Sleaze Disease
Well, if nothing else, I hope they feel like they accomplished something, because I don't think anyone else does. I'll be the first person to stick up for artistic vision, even if it reeks of pretentiousness, but I have a hard time seeing their side of this.
This is just dumb. Sticking up for your integrity is okay, but not like this. I'd like to point out that the original singer of Gallows did it MUCH BETTER than these clowns, who just look like Axl Rose now, instead.
Caught them in Glasgow last summer. I was very disappointed that there was no live kit. Never heard that kind of visceral delivery with a live kit before. Left early.
as crappy as their "music" is, at least they had the decency to stop their embarrassment... now if only trent reznor could do the same...
Music is extremely subjective in nature putting it in quotation marks doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look like an ass.
UG grasping for news through twitter posts and then reporting on them days after the news has already blown over.
Dang. I got into Death Grips recently, but I knew nothing of their "rock star" personalities. That's lame. music still good doe
I just hope they pick a good replacement cause those 3 bands in one night was quite the lineup.
