11
For any guitar heroes out there with an iPad, it's time to stop dreaming and start playing! Ultimate Guitar Tabs is coming to the iPad in a brand new HD incarnation. A subscription-based application, Ultimate Guitar Tabs HD (get it on iTunes) lets you access Ultimate-Guitar.com's database of over 300,000 guitar Tablatures, bass Tablatures, drum Tablatures and chords from your iPad. The app, which is free to download, offers three tab subscription packages for users; the subscriptions cost $2.99 for 3 months, $3.99 for 6, and $5.99 for 12. The application offers all of the classic features associated with the Ultimate Guitar Tabs app:
  • Simple Search: You can find Tabs quickly by entering artist name or song title.
  • Advanced Search tool: Search for Tabs by specifying Tab type (guitar Tabs, chords, bass Tabs), part of the song (intro, solo, chorus), difficulty level, tuning, and rating.
  • UG Authorization: Sign in with your Ultimate Guitar account, or create a new one directly from the app.
  • Favorites: Add Tabs to your Favorites to make them available for offline browsing. You can synchronize Tabs between the app and your online account.
  • Chords: View chord diagrams while reading Chords, transpose chords easily. (Subscription required)
  • Tab Packs: Collections of pre-selected Tabs. Tab Packs are based on skills level (Easy, Medium, Advanced), music genres (Rock, Metal, Punk), and special occasions (Love songs, Xmas songs).
  • Top 100 Tabs list for each Tab type (Guitar, Bass, Chords, Drums or overall).
  • Auto-scroll feature: View Tablature in the text viewer using the handy Auto-Scroll functionality. (Subscription required)
  • Random Tab: Load Tab for a random song.
  • Now playing: Find Tabs for the currently playing song.
  • Portrait and Landscape modes are available: You can scale Tabs too. On top of this, the new Ultimate Guitar Tabs HD application offers several brand new features never before seen in Ultimate Guitar Tabs. These have also been implemented in the latest update of the iPhone and Android apps:
  • Ability to create Playlists in Favorites, similarly to playlists in native iPod player.
  • Ability to search for Tabs and Bands in Favorites.
  • Improved Chords display. Getting its premiere on the iPhone and iPod Touch in March of 2010, the original Ultimate Guitar Tab app went on to become the number one paid application in the Music Category of the US App store within a week of its release. Own an Android phone? Get your app here!

Yes you can, that's why it's useless and I got ripped off of 3$ when I bought it for my iPod. They got my attention because of the additional features like the tuner or chords, but it's not until you've actually bought it that they tell you you need to pay extra for those.

Do you need internet access to us it or all are the tabs downloaded straight onto your ipod or ipad?

I'm the reverse. I find the Macbook crap, and the iPhone to be a better device.

so if ug is making people pay to view tabs shouldnt contributors be getting money too? where would ug be without it's contributors?

UG is not making people pay to view tabs. You can go to any computer with internet access and view any tab in the database whenever you please. UG is merely implementing a small fee towards the app to pay the people who designed it and keep the website going. Keep in mind, it is free for us to register and go anywhere on this site. I think a small fee towards an optional app is very reasonable on UG's part. Checked.

Uh, no. The fact that no one would use this site if you had to pay is what keeps it free.

Some of the tabs are build in, but for the majority of them you'll need internet access. Also you can add any tab into your favorites and then' it'll be stored into devices memory.

I am having issues, keeps telling me I don't have a subscription, (can't see tabs) then I go in to buy it, and it shows I already did. I haven't gotten an Apple receipt yet (just bought it last night)...is there some tech help somewhere?
      Chrisedge
OK, it does show I paid for it in my iTunes account. Yet it wants me to buy it again or shows that I don't have it in app.
      bobseverns
I paid for two subscriptions 2.99 and 5.99 because I was not sure the first purchase went through. Cannot get it to work and they have not responded to tech support email with iTunes receipt. Buyer beware. I am out $9 and no tabs at all in the iPad app

There are many contributors who do get paid. There are others who voluntarily submit stuff.

I actually bought this app for my ipad and used it for an acoustic gig. Being able to look up songs people request regularly that I may not know or remember all the chords or breakdowns is a drag and this makes it easy to look them up and save them to favorites. Plus instead of hauling around my huge ass note book of sheet music (which is how i used to look up songs and if i didnt have a particular song id be out of luck) I can just take my iPad and set it up on my sheet stand. There is definitely more utility that comes with the purchase rather than just looking up tabs which makes it just a good as visiting the site.

      matter
With iPad 2 hitting the shelves, used first generation iPads get *really* affordable!

^ he's right but how often are you gonna find yourself in a situation that you have an ipad and not a computer that you'd have to pay for UG. Maybe i still dont understand the importance of this thing, what can it do that a your computer and phone Cant do?
      robhc
UG, make an app for BlackBerry. I know more with blackberries than any other smart phone or an iPad. It would be a wise business move.
      col50
meh I don't have an iPad. I did however buy the UG ap for my phone.
      Seref
My friend has the iPad Nano. It even has a phone built in!

Why would I, or anyone for that matter, pay a monthly fee for a something they can get for free? Wouldn't it be easier to just pull up the browser on the iPad and go to the UG website and pull the tab up?
      guitarsftw
Wait, people actually BOUGHT iPads? :-P Anyway, the app should be better on the iPad than an iPhone.

So when your around a campfire 400 miles from internet its downloaded to your Device. Just buy it. UG helps us all for free so very often. Its time to give something back. I bought the iphone app and the tools upgrade just to support UG. I think the app is pretty useless for me, but it helps the site and the site helps me for free all the time.

Yay if I had an ipad! gonna look for one of the first gen on eBay, some of the apps are awesome e.g. the Korg iMS-20
      adstr123
Yes, indeed. The fact that iPhone is crap is reflected by it's millions of global sales, multiple awards and happiness of it's customer base.... *facepalm* It's crap in your OPINION. I am curious as to why you guys feel the need to share that on an unrelated news topic. Also interested to see that you have absolutely no reasons to support this argument. OT, awesome! I've been waiting for an iPad app!

The main problem is that it costs $2.99 ever 3 months... what does the app have that going straight to the source, ultimate-guitar.com doesn't?

Be reasonably portable while retaining practicality. Laptops are portable, but you aren't gonna bust it out to look at a grocery list. As a college student, it's useful because I can just bring that to class with me. All of my books are on it, and I can do my homework/take notes on it.

That is so cool, good to see someone being productive.

I'd gladly buy it for any flat fee, but for a subscription model that's just a rip-off. Sticking with the iPhone version.
