This Wednesday (July 12) in Detroit, MI, Metallica briefly brought a young fan named Kendalynn onstage to jam some drums before the boys rocked "Seek and Destroy."

In related stuff, the band premiered pro-shot live footage of "Creeping Death" and "Battery" from the ongoing tour.

Joey Jordison, Mike Portnoy, Arin Ilejay, Bill Ward, and Dave Lombardo have all praised Lars Ulrich for his drumming abilities, innovation, his smarts, and his influence, can we please stop with the fallacy that Lars Ulrich is a bad drummer? He's not the greatest drummer ever but that's ok, music is not a competition. He's good enough for Metallica and he's a big reason for why they are where they are today, he's great at arranging songs and he's great with money. Lars is good enough for Metallica and Nothing Else Matters.

I don't think Lars needs you to come to his defense. He's too busy counting his money.

In a world overrun by "I think it, therefore it's true." I'm just trying to bring some facts into the discussion. Everyone has an opinion and that's not always a good thing. In a case like this for example, many legendary and amazing drummers have come out and defended Lars, they are experts, what they say matters, what you say does not.

No. I saw them at this show in Detroit and there were at least two songs that they ended early because Lars LITERALLY CANNOT KEEP UP. If you want to argue about how good he was in their prime, go ahead. But he is over the hill and he sucks ass now. You can't defend that.

    1. All of them are Metallica fans so of course they're going to praise Lars. 2. Just because they say it doesn't mean they believe it. 3. There are thousands of accomplished drummers who have never publicly praised Lars Ulrich for anything.

Poor deduction skills.  1. Being a Metallica fan means you like their music. Lars is part of their music, so you have to like his playing at least a little. Else, you would not be able to enjoy their music so much that you would be a fan => you would not be a Metallica fan. Next! 2. If we're being cynical, this holds true for everyone on this earth. Next! 3. If X people have said Z is true, and Y people have said Z is false, then Z on its own cannot be used to prove either. Just shot down all your arguments.

I completely agree... at least with the "he's great with money" part. Jokes aside, he has his (srious) flaws, but then again, everyone does. He writes good songs, he is ok in the drums (he was really good, though). Sure Metallica could have a much better drummer, but there's no point in that, he's an important part of the band and the 'family'

You just came out and flamed everyone on this and I whole-heartedly agree with you.  He's not perfect, but he's perfect for Metallica.  Also..... plus 1000 for those last three words

Great moment for her, and excellent parental responsibility with the ear defenders.

I saw it happen the other day when I saw this tour at the Hard Rock, a rep came out on stage asking if a child that was on his dads shoulders had ear plugs. I guess its to avoid a legal suite or something.

When she's whisked off stage, James: "Oh, was that all?" I'm dying! It's fun for Metallica to bring up some kiddo to bang a tom, but as others have said, other bands (Green Day, Foo Fighters) will bring fans up to play whole songs. At least let the Metallicouple support you guys on tour!

Are we not done with the whole "Omg a child can play an instrument!" trend?  She didn't even play anything just hit some random notes for a few seconds.
    henrihell
I'm fine with if the kid would actually have played a song with them. This was nothing but attention whoring by the band.

Hmmm trying to think of something funny to say here!..... hmmm can't quite seem to think of it???

Anything in the "Lars Suks" department should work. Give it a shot.

Ok here we go... Lars has sucked more tits than you ever will... Oh wait that joke is on you. Sure he is not the best but Lars is a great musician/songwriter and Metallica would not be around if not for his influence.
    NormanDude
How about the not actually letting her drum in a song? I'm okay with "look how they're better than you and they're 12 years old" articles, but she didn't actually play in a song
    Downfault
For a moment I thought she would play Seek and Destroy with them. Did you Dr how day Lars booted her of the kit? I think he got a little intimidated that this five year old girl was going to be a better drummer than him.
    rygar75
Yea I was waiting for her to actually do something besides just sit there and look excited. There probably are a few kids her age that could play "Seek and Destroy" just fine.
    Downfault
Dang typos. I meant did you see how fast he booted her off the kit. Joke lost

It was just a matter of time, y'kno James "ow, is that all?" Even he wanted one good drum performance for a change Just kidding, Lars' the best drummer in the world  Just kidding! Seriously though, I wanted to see her to perform the whole song
    DustinEBurton
I was there that night. Mind blowing performance. They cut A7X extremely short because they thought that it was going to rain (it never did), but Metallica played a longer set and hung out with the crowd for a bit after the show. Fantastic show!

3 takeaways from this... James Hetfield still looks good in a sleeveless shirt. Kirk Hammett looks like a 12 year old girl with gray hair in a sleeveless shirt. Nobody noticed the little kid replacing Lars on drums because why would they, hes awful.

I saw Green Day do this with entire songs. An Indian guy sang better than Billie Joe it was hilarious.
