HMV to Relaunch with Streaming Service
HMV could come back from the brink, with plans to relaunch under a new name.

The beloved company is the last nationwide music retailer in the UK, but went bust in January. Hundreds of staff lost their jobs, and many stores were auctioned off to supermarket chains who wanted their prime locations on British high streets.

Now they're hunting for a new marketing team to lead a rebrand of the company. The original marketing team were among those fired in early 2013.

At one point during the layoffs, angry staff hijacked the HMV Twitter feed to complain. "We're tweeting live from HR... over 60 of us being fired at once! Mass execution of loyal employees who love the brand." 190 people lost their jobs that day.

No details of the rebrand have been confirmed, but it is expected to launch a new website with a music and film streaming service, similar to HMV Canada's "The Vault" service. The Canadian branch of the company has been successful and was not involved in the collapse of the original British firm. In fact, the company Hillco which owns the Canadian HMV are the ones who swooped in at the last moment to save the British HMV.
