Dee Snider: Why I Denounce Paul Ryan's Use Of 'We're Not Gonna Take It'
Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who recently slammed Vice Presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan using the band's 1984 signature tune "We'Re Not Gonna Take It" at a recent rally, was interviewed on tonight's (Monday, September 10) edition of "Joy Behar: Say Anything", Blabbermouth reports. "View" co-host Joy Behar's new show on Current TV. You can now watch a clip of his appearance below. Asked why he objects to Paul Ryan's use of "We're Not Gonna Take It" on the campaign trail, Snider said, "I have never objected to anybody using that song. It has become an anthem for anybody who is... anything they're against, whether it's work, their job, their teacher, a sporting event, whatever, they use the song. The Tea Party used the song; I didn't object to that. [But] everything that's come out of [Paul Ryan's] mouth I have objected to except for the use of P90X [a commercial home exercise regimen], which I do indoors; I'm a P90X user. But other than that, there's practically nothing I agree with with this guy, and so I said I just do not like him using the song. I didn't say he couldn't use the song; I denounced his use of my song". Regarding the fact that he was OK with the Tea Party using the song and his endorsement of then-GOP candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger during the actor's successful recall campaign against Democratic incumbent Governor Gray Davis, Snider said, "I'm both hailed and reviled by both sides - left and right. I consider myself a "mugwump". Mark Twain was a mugwump, the first of the mugwumps. They're people who vote for the right person, or the best choice you have". Snider also said that he wasn't as bothered by Ryan's running mate, GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, telling Behar, "I didn't feel as angry towards Mitt Romney. You look at his record. He's a Northeastern Republican - fiscally conservative, socially liberal. And I figure once he got in office... He's just saying whatever he needs to say to get there. Let's put it this way - I don't feel he's as hardened and really truly believes in the things he says". When Behar pointed out that this is a problem, the singer quickly added, "Oh, I'm not voting for him. I'm not voting for Romney. I was never voting for Romney".
