Iron Maiden Frontman: 'This Whole New Album Feels Effortless'

Iron Maiden recently spoke exclusively to the U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine about their upcoming 14th studio offering, "A Matter of Life and Death", due in September. The CD was recorded at Sarm West Studios in London with producer Kevin Shirley, who also worked on the last two Maiden albums, 2000's "Brave New World" and 2003's "Dance of Death". "'Brave New World' and 'Dance Of Death' were both good records," frontman Bruce Dickinson told Kerrang! "But they weren't anywhere near as good as this one! This one is 'Dance of Death' without the effort. This whole album feels effortless. It's like driving a big, gas-guzzling motor car. You just put your foot down and there's limitless power under the bonnet." "It's been unbelievable," added bassist/founder member Steve Harris. "We booked the studio for three months and we finished the whole thing in two. I think the preparation was good. We didn't have the rows we usually have! We really focused on each song and it was a very positive experience." "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg", which will be the first single to be taken from the record, is described by Kerrang! as "an intricate seven-minute epic that starts with a creepy, ominous intro before erupting into a crushing, almost Led Zeppelin-esque riff and a powerful, emotive chorus." "It's very different for us." admitted Harris. "It's very riffy. The intro has an almost nursery rhyme eeriness. Sometimes you try to create a mood and sometimes it's just there. Everyone's going to ask who Benjamin Breeg is, but you'll just have to find out for yourself!" With regards to whether "A Matter Of Life And Death" marks a fresh lease of life for Maiden, Harris said, "Five years ago we were thinking about possibly retiring at this point, but now we're at this stage there's no way! Why should we? I don't know why, but I always had it in my head that we'd do fifteen studio albums, so we've got at least one more to go!" Thanks for the info to Blabbermouth.net.

I just don't like dickheads voice though, Maiden was ten times better with that paul dianno guy off their first two albums. They sounded much heavier without dickhead. I'll admit that dickhead is talented and he has a good singing voice, but i just personally don't like it.
the first guy had hardly any talent with his voice, the band would've gone nowhere.

They were pretty well known in england before dickhead, they were on bbc a few times, but you are right because they probably wouldn't have had much success in other countries. Yeah he wasn't the most talented singer but i think his voice blended in good with the music. And sure even if they got nowhere that doesn't mean they would have been a bad band, they would have been much better. The only downside is that me or anyone else here would have never heard of maiden.

Bruce's solo career is efortless...thats why it tanked and he hates Ozzy Osbourne for being so successful.

this is cool, supposedly metallica's new album's gonna be good (but hey, st anger was supposed to be too) then lamb of god is having a new one, there's a couple other bands too who'll bring metal back a bit. anyway, now iron maiden? hell yea, they sound confident too, sounds promising ....f*ck yes...

AC-DC-Rocker you are in the wrong place buddy, Maiden is one of the founders of Metal, they have limitless talent and they put it to good use. I can't wait for the new album, along with slayer, metallica, judas priest, king diamond, megadeth, AND the gigantatour dvd/cd coming out all within the next two years I am gonna go broke, but it'll be worth it. Up The Irons!!!!!

ACDC-cocker yeah what skuzzmo said...funny thing is i hear that shitty band ACDC on the radio oh i dunno every hour or so...whats wrong with that you ask, well see the thing is i use to like them and then look what happens they get over played and then you wind up hating them. I don't have to worry about that with Maiden. And if you would like to talk shit on dave, adrian, or janick just remember they're not on stage wearing little short shorts and having a seizure. Yes I'll gladly take Dave pumping his fist in the air occasionally, to some chap kicking an imaginary ball thank you.

@ ACDC-rocker A bunch of old biddys on zimmer frames????? Your obviously an AC/DC fan, a band who have been on the go longer than maiden....But they're not old biddys cos you like them.....and the rest of your post gives me the feeling that you've never listened to the maiden catalogue....and if you have and you stll have that opinion then you must be bit of an idiot....but thanks for your contribution anyway

i luv maiden!!! they rock ma socks! dance of death was amazin n if this one is goin to be better.....
    itsaboy
Well if it's better than Brave New World and Dance of Death it should be quite Impressive as I was Fucking amazed when Brave New World came out, still remains one of my favourites... Maiden possibly the best, most commited band ever UP THE IRONS!
    ACDC-Rocker
Iron maiden is a pussy band. A bunch of old biddys on zimmer frames trying to rock out. Everyone i know who likes Iron Maiden gets ragged for liking them, quite simply because their music consits of high pitched woman voices, with stupid squeaky quitar solos. Burn in hell maiden, you ruin the music industry!!

Just in case anyone's wondering: http:/www.benjaminbreeg.co.uk/ explains a bit. Can't wait for the album. Should be awesome.

Can't wait for this album. If its as good as they say it is then it'll wipe the floor with every other release this year methinks
    Abnormal_Omish
hope its good stuff- not that they make bad music but their later albums didn't grasp me as much as the older ones.

Maiden kicks ass. And they are rarely on the radio anyway (one time i was freakin out because i hear number of the beast on an IL radio station). I am deff. lookin forward to this cd.

Dammit... We had bets at school on which song would be the best... My mate went for the reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg... Asshole. Ah well, Out Of The Shadows could still be better...

When you've been rocking as long as these guys have, albums SHOULD be rather effortless. can't wait to hear this new single =D
    Spamwise
can't wait. maiden's a lot different than most bands from their time period, unlike the other bands whose (in most cases) new albums are mediocre, iron maiden still rocks.
