UG Awards: Vote For Best New Act

Time to give credit to the new artists who broke into the rock scene in 2012, and vote for your favorite new act all year.

Ultimate Guitar

As part of our forthcoming UG Awards 2012 post, we're asking readers to vote in a new category each day for a special post over the holidays.

Today's category:

Who was the best new act in 2012?

We want you to place a nomination in the comments and upvote the ones you agree with. The one with the highest number of up votes wins the award.

It doesn't matter when the act started out or if they've released EPs in the past, but their first full length album had to be released in 2012. Ideally, they haven't been covered by UG in previous years.

It doesn't have to be a band - it can be a solo artist or duo, if you like.

Voting tips

- Place ONE nominations per comment, or the upvotes won't count. You can place as many nominations as you want across different comments, though.

- Do a quick search of the page to make sure someone else didn't already nominate that act. Just scroll down to the bottom so all the comments have loaded, then do a search on the page (ctrl-f on a PC, cmd-f on a mac) for their name.

You're welcome to discuss the topic in the comments and reply to nominations, as usual.

Remember to vote in our other award categories too. The list so far:

Band of the Year

Guitarist of the Year

New acts? Who do you think I am? I'm not going to listen to new bands. Change is scary.
Haha. So true. I haven't seen anyone say them yet, so I'll vote for Leander Rising. They're based in Hungary.
    Jimmy and the Downvotes
    f**kin loved that album
I loved their cover of Ray Charles' "I Can't Stop Downvoting You"
I thought Disturbed did a great job with 'Downvote With The Sickness'.
    Art By Numbers
Down voting this just suggests that people haven't listened to the band. Hands down the best debut of 2012 and one of the best albums of 2012.
I'd be outright astonished if they didn't win this category, but if they don't, it's because not enough people know who they are yet. But goddamn if they aren't spectacular.
Art By Numbers, if you don't know this band, check them out immediately.
These are teh students of the human abstract's lead guitarist. amazing band if you havent listened to them. their last album was a sleeper hit to me, i didnt care much for the title song though.
    Vintage Trouble
Fuck yeah. I saw them earlier this year after they opened for The Who, and the following night as well in this small club. I think they sound very much like Cream, but with James Brown as lead vocalist.
    Rival Sons
YES. Rival Sons are the closest thing you will get to Led Zeppelin today.
I'd have to agree with you there. I saw these guys earlier this year (I think they were supporting Shinedown) and I'd never heard of them before. Their performance blew me away.
Skyharbor for 2nd nomination because whoever can manage to get Marty Friedman and Dan Tomkins on the same album deserves a medal
i had never heard of this band. just looked them up and holy f*ck i am blown away. People need to check these guys out. The stuff with Daniel Tompkins is superb. Reminds me of Dream Theater at times but better.
I think my upvote button is broken, it won't let me click it anymore...
Seeing as Mark Tremonti has been in two bands previous to his solo career, I'd say that this shouldn't count since he's not a new artist. That said, Tremonti sucks and shouldn't be recognized for anything.
SO someone who won Guitarist of the year 3 times in a row sucks. I can see why you would say that, Cause it just makes sense.
How do you get out of bed in the morning with such a negative outlook on life? Cheer up buddy
....Are you kidding me. His new band absolutely killed it on their debut album. A straight up hard rocking album with only a couple softer songs to showcase that Mark Tremonti isn't just a one-track writer and that he is very versatile. You can't argue that he is one of the upper echelon guys in the Mainstream/Hard Rock world of the past 10-15 years.
