The best soundtracks include a solid rock song or two, and that's a fact. Whether it's for a movie or video game, nothing makes a scene more exciting than a rip-roaring rock track.

It's often a great portal to the rock world for people who are new to the genre.

This week's question is:

What are the best rock soundtrack songs?

Post one song per comment, with a reference to the movie soundtrack you found it on. Feel free to include a short anecdote about how you found it and what it means to you - we might include it in the final post.

If you're stuck for ideas, how about the "Little Nicky" soundtrack? "The Matrix" which featured Rage Against the Machine? How about "Need for Speed" series which features the likes of Static X, Mastodon and Avenged Sevenfold? And who could forget the early "Tony Hawks" games, which introduced the world of punk to a whole generation?

Post your nomination below. Good luck!

Wait, can this same song get #1 in two lists?! Marty McFly playing "Johnny B. Goode" in Back to the Future.

    If that doesn't earn Back To The Future it's rightful spot on this list, surely either Back In Time or The Power Of Love by Huey Lewis and The News should;

Make it Berry's contribution to Pulp Fiction instead, where whitey isn't stealing rock music from Mr. Berry.

And of course obvious song from "Rocky III") Survivor - "Eye of the Tiger"

These classic training sequences always crack me up as they remind me of the parody in the film Team America - with the chorus 'we need a montage!'

There have been so many great James Bond themes. More recently, Alicia Keys and Jack White 's Another Way To Die , Chris Cornell 's You Know My Name and of course Adele 's Skyfall have all been great tracks. And you can't ignore the classic themes from the older films - Shirley Bassey has some set of pipes.
    Way Cool JR.
"On The Dark Side" by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band. Made For the Eddie And The Cruisers movie.

So...it at first said movies, but then it mentioned the Tony Hawk video games, so I'll mention a video game: "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked" by Cage the Elephant is pretty iconic with Borderlands.

If we are going to mention Tony Hawk, then Guerrilla Radio has to be it

Disagree. Of all the Pro Skater 2 songs, it has to be Millencolin's No Cigar. But even then, nothing tops Goldfinger's Superman from the original game.

Don't even say that this song didn't get to you at the end of Red Dead Redemption...

This was heartbreaking! "Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie" got me also when it shows the grave. Great choice

Wasn't "You Could Be Mine" also in some other futuristic movie? I forgot which one because I didn't really like it, but I think I remember something about hover-motorcycles.

I'll kick off Big Gun by AC/DC
    Jazz1992
Anything from Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.

That film was a musical, and if we can suggest those my vote goes to The Blues Brothers.
Every song featured in that film is great, and the big jam at the end of it's sequel is brilliant. These guys got me interested in soul music.

    On the subject of Arnold Schwarzenegger films, this one is really iconic;

Definitely Steppenwolf - Born to be wild

I GUESS PEOPLE MUST UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SONG USED IN SOUNDTRACK AND SONG WRITTEN AS SOUNDTRACK. WE NEED ONLY SECOND ONE HERE ORIGINALLY WRITTEN FOR MOVIE NOT JUST ONE TAKEN FROM ALBUM AND USED IN FILM.

First thing that came to mind for me is the Top Gun Anthem by Steve Stevens and Harold Faltermeyer. Love that song.
    Way Cool JR.
Pretty much everything Kenny Loggins made for movies was an instant classic. I love his work
    Himynameisben95

    KBI2113
Every time this song comes on at work, everyone instantly says "oh yeah, Tony Hawk".
    LeonPrime
You Know My Name of Chris Cornell in the Royal Casino, doesn't seem to be the best though.
    racertj5
Seriously, say what you want about "Elton John isn't rock blah blah blah, but seriously how did this scene not make the list.
    RCA1186
Probably shouldn't even bother voting, UG wont use what we pick anyways

"A Little Bitter" - Alice In Chains - from the Last Action Hero soundtrack I admit, I've never even seen the movie, but AIC played this song at Lollapalooza 3 ("you guys wanna here some new stuff?"), and the place went batsh1t crazy. When I found out that (at the time) it was the only thing that had the song on it, I went and bought the soundtrack CD. It's an unknown song (to many), but it's one of AIC's best, IMHO.
