Bright Eyes To Release Final Album

More than a year ago, Bright Eyes' Conor Obers revealed to the Omaha World-Herald that he would be making one last record under the Bright Eyes name before retiring the moniker. That album appears to be The People's Key, which is due out on February 15. The album's lineup includes Oberst, Mike Mogis (also from Monsters of Folk) and Nathaniel Walcott. The People's Key was recorded at ARC Studios in Omaha, Nebraska and will be released on Saddle Creek Records (as opposed to Merge, which has released Oberst's recent solo discs). The Bright Eyes gang will likely tour behind the album and have already announced two big shows at New York City's Radio City Music Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall. Jason Boesel, who has drummed as part of Bright Eyes and indie favorites Rilo Kiley, provided some clues to the sound of the album on his Twitter page: Just heard half of the new Bright Eyes record. Best sci-fi emo album of the last 20 years!!! The People's Key track list: 01. Firewall 02. Shell Games 03. Jejune Stars 04. Approximate Sunlight 05. Haile Selassie 06. A Machine Spiritual (In the People's Key) 07. Triple Spiral 08. Beginner's Mind 09. Ladder Song 10. One For You, One For Me Thanks for the report to Bryan Wawzenek, Gibson.com.

I'm really excited for this. I'm also really excited to see BE's live, hopefully I won't have to travel to do that. It's sad how metal/hardrock oriented this site is. BE's is easily one of the top ten bands of the decade and this doesn't really generate any excitement here on UG.

metallica and def leppard have both already done this

Can't wait to get this album. Sucks it's the last Bright Eyes record but as long as Conor keeps making music I'm content.

Good riddance. I am a huge indie/emo/folk fan and I hate Connor Oberst, Bright Eyes and all of his silly projects.

I remember the days when I was really into bright eyes. I kinda grew out of it although I still play Sunrise Sunset and Haligh Haligh a Lie Haligh every once in a while. I'll give it a listen just to see where he's taken his music to this point.

Nick Cave plays with two drummers too,and franz ferdinand usually have 2-4 players ona kit for Outsiders live,it's still a really cool thing to do,and Bright Eyes have released many albums spanning many genres, all with merrit, conor oberst is a don

This is pretty sad. At least the Mystic Valley Band is sick. Pretty stoked for the tour to come.

very happy. I did love the first solo disc (Ie the self titled one, not the really early tapes) one of his best albums! Wasn't that really into monsters of folk. I hope he reconsiders, it seems a little silly to completly stop bright eyes stuff if he's still working with Mogis.

This is sad... but then again, it's not like there will be any absence of Conor Oberst's brilliance. He'll be releasing music to the day he dies for sure
