Devin Townsend has officially confirmed that his new album, "Ziltoid the Omniscient" sequel titled "Z2," is set for an October 28 release, but will be followed with a year off.

Hevy Devy started quite a massive project, so the decision to take a break shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. As reported, the new album's promotion will be crowned with an April 13 musical performance at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

Add the fresh Casualties of Cool album to the mix and you'll get a very busy year for Devin, as well as very successful.

"Hey all! So it's been years I’ve been trying to get the energies in line to do another Ziltoid record, and it's finally happened! Z2 is my new record, and it's a multimedia event that has taken a ton of people a ton of effort to bring to you! It’s a double album, (one side DTP, and one side Ziltoid) and the concept expands on Ziltoid the alien, and his sci-fi adventures in a way that kind of throws back to '50s radio plays... but obviously with complicated, heavy music as its soundtrack.

"It has taken a great deal of energy to put this all together, and the music is just one of the aspects of it. It’s a dream come true in a lot of ways, and I'm excited and honored to be able to finalize the project with a live version of the entire record at the famous Royal Albert Hall in London on April 13th of next year! (!!) Basically what we did with 'The Retinal Circus' a few years back will be taken to the next level with Z2 live.

"At the end of this process, we reached for the stars, and hopefully got to the moon, and after this album cycle, I will be taking some time to recharge my batteries and see what the next chapter holds. I hope you enjoy this record and all its offshoots, as one of my goals is to hopefully inspire folks to reach for unconventional ways to express themselves as well. We couldn’t have done it without you! See you at the show?" the musician's statement reads.

Discussing the inevitable break with Entertaimnet, Townsend pointed out that his voice got severely "hammered" over the past seven years of extensive work, branding it "more of a liability than it once was."

As reported, Chris Jericho was announced as one of the new album's special guests. More in for here. Also, you can check out the "Z2" cover here.

"Basically what we did with 'The Retinal Circus' a few years back will be taken to the next level with Z2 live" I say, the fappening ain't got nothin on Hevy Devy
A year off to many fanbases would mean not a fat lot, but a year to the DT fanbase? That's three albums and a sh*t ton of tours haha. No doubt Dev will come back with some awesome music!
Oh my Fucking God! Yes. Z2 is going to be amazing. A single year off? I think the fans can take that considering he has released 7 albums in 5 years. Most bands do that after each album, and he's even done 2 live albums and a shit ton of touring. Dude deserves some time off, but only after Z2! (Only because I'm impatient for the awesomeness). Rest well Devy, you more than deserve it. I'll see you in Vancouver this fall!
He's lazy! Buckethead and Omar Rodriguez-Lopes probably released 20 albums in that time span :p. He deserves a break, i wish most artists were as productive as him, and he even manages to keep a high level of quality. Edit: Quote fail, was a response to the 7 albums in 5 years quote. (Btw, if he makes 2 more he will have made more albums in 5 years than Metallica has in their entire career).
Devin certainly deserves a brake after all this. Can't wait for the Z2 and can't wait to hear what he'll bring to the table next.
Devin is probably the only artist I'll take on faith anymore that his output will be worth purchasing. I don't have to hear a single, snippets, or anything else. If he puts it out, I'll buy it. That simple.
