Dream Theater revealed the cover and tracklist of their upcoming self-titled album. The band posted a picture with the cover artwork, which can be seen below, on their official Facebook page.

The album will drop on September 24 and it will become the band's 12th studio release overall, and fourth with Roadrunner Records.

"I see every new album as an opportunity to start over," says prog legends' axeman John Petrucci. "To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We've fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We're incredibly excited about 'Dream Theater' and can't wait for everyone to hear it."

The nine-track disc was recorded at Cove City Studio in Glen Cove, Long Island, with guitarist Petrucci producing and Richard Chycki engineering and mixing. It's the band's second album with drummer Mike Mangini, and the first one on which he was a part of the writing process from Day One.

"When people hear the drumming on this album, theyre gonna be pretty freaked out," Petrucci said of Mangini's work. "On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn't there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now hes just Mike Mangini unleashed. It's all him. It's all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guys an animal."

The track listing for Dream Theater is as follows:

01. False Awakening Suite i. Sleep Paralysis ii. Night Terrors iii. Lucid Dream 02. The Enemy Inside 03. The Looking Glass 04. Enigma Machine 05. The Bigger Picture 06. Behind the Veil 07. Surrender to Reason 08. Along for the Ride 09. Illumination Theory i. Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire ii. Live, Die, Kill iii. The Embracing Circle iv. The Pursuit of Truth v. Surrender, Trust & Passion

Dream Theater will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 gram double LP, and a limited edition boxed set. Pre-orders are scheduled to launch in July at the Roadrunner Records Webstore.

Dream Theater will be on tour in Europe in January and February 2014, and in North America in March 2014.

There's seriously album cover hate on this? What's wrong with it?
Totally agree. Generally bands have a more understated logo on their self-titled albums anyway. Regardless, the track listing looks promising. Cant ****ing wait.
I would say most self-titled albums have this minimalist feel to them... black album, white album, a7x self-titled, etc.

It's the dark side of the moon
Please point out where you think it looks like "Dark Side of the Moon." Also, don't say "because it's black."
I think its becasue DT's album cover are usually very complex and complete, wich makes such a minimalistic cover feel odd, the same goes for the title, anyway the track list does sound pretty cool.
I like it actually. I thought that it looked pretty sweet when I first saw it. The title leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not bad at all.
Two Multi-part songs!?!?! Excuse me for one moment please..... WHOOOOOhOOOOOjkhnkvhsad; fbhklsfgvbk;jsbvlkajxzkbhvl Yes!YEsYESYEYSYESYESYESYESYes..... "ehhem" *puts pants back on* I guess i'm pretty excited for this.
One can only hope that False awakening suite incorporates more than 3 parts.
I think the album cover's great, really bold and simple. Nice change from the '70s Prog artwork copies.

Considering most of their tracks/parts are, on average, 7 minutes long, I'm betting this album is going to be around 105 minutes long, or 1,75hours, which means it's probably going to be a two part album. WHOOOOOhOOOOOjkhnkvhsad; fbhklsfgvbk;jsbvlkajxzkbhvl Yes!YEsYESYEYSYESYESYESYESYes..... indeed.
For a band named Dream Theater, this album cover leaves a lot to the imagination.
I don't see how this is any more clear compared to other albums. A person unicycling on a tight rope, when the album was a lot about revolution & change going on in the world.
    My Last Words
Chill out dude, it's literally on one song off this album. And that makes it a whopping three with 'under a glass moon' and 'the glass prison'. which is 3/95... so yeah, i guess your right it's pretty much all their songs

I love the cover! And hell yes to multi part songs! Hopefully the closing track is an epic in the vein of Octavarium, Change of Seasons, and Count of Tuscany. Overall: FUCK YEAH DREAM THEATER SJFJSKJFKSFSF WOOO!
9 songs, two of them are multi-part songs, so knowing DT, this album is gonna be about 2 hours long. haha! awesome cover too.
September 24th, 2013 will go down in history as the day that countless people's brains explode - survivors will long tell tale of how it felt as though their headphones were making sweet love to their ears with sticks of dynamite.
I scrolled down on the cover art real slow... gave me chills. Unreal excited for this album
9 Dt tracks? I guess it's going to be a 4 cd set.
Don't understand all these people who are saying "oh this album's going to be great" or "oh this albums going to be stupid, but this song and this song might be cool". Seriously people, you cannot tell how good a song is going to be by its name. Save your judgements for when the album actually comes out.
oh and also, these song titles are sick!! they're so cool!!! i wonder which one is the instrumental
Hey toxin9, I just thought that maybe The Bigger Picture is the instrumental because if you watch their new in the studio episode, on there chart there is an X under lyrics for it. Just an idea though.
you know there's some epicness coming when there are songs with a bunch of parts, pretty excited about it, can't wait!
It's not a bad cover, simple, leaves a lot to the imagination and it's not overdoing anything. But its not a traditional Dream Theater cover because of this. Rather then giving you a bunch of random images like an boy uni-cycling above airplanes or an eye looking at you from the ground, it lets you decide what the songs mean in reference. I think they could have put a little more on it but that's just nit picking.

Awesome cover, awesome song names. I have the feeling this is going to be a killer album.
i really don't think there's anything wrong with the album cover. actually i think it's really beautiful, and i can look at it all day. huge syme is a great artist and this cover is just as great as the other ones he did like ADTOE or BC&SL. also this album is going to kick some ass!! i'm sure it's going to be one of their best and i cant wait!!
I like the cover. You look at most of it and it's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.....
Thanks John Petrucci, John Myung, James Labrie, Jordan Rudess and Mike Mangini for making another sure to be EPIC release! Makes my day/year! Looking forward to seeing you tour it!
I have a nagging feeling that "The Enemy Inside" will be a mediocre single, penned lyrically by Labrie...
This will forever be known as the "almost black" album :p
How can you know songs will be great because of the name? Haha don't get me wrong- I own and love every single Dream Theater album ever made- but my band comes up with cool song titles for our names and all of our songs SUCKKKKK =P
The logo looks like a shiny car hood ornament. Not that it's a bad thing, but that was the first thought I had.
Not a huge fan of the artwork, but I imagine it could look nice as a matte finish with the logo embossed. Still very excited.
Why is there a picture of Blur on the news page next to this article?
I can dig it. Nice and "Dreamy". Btw: after Awake and BC&SL, isn't this now the third DT album cover on which the Moon has been featured in some form? Maybe they should start doing some spacey-sounding music like Arjen Lucassen's Star One.
The Cover seems a bit boring but im very excited about the songtitles and the fact that two songs have subtitles (or whatever its called in music terms), hopefully this means that we get a couple of huge proggy epics .
Covers not necessarily boring, the planet does look a bit cheap. But at the same time I couldn't give a **** as I'm not going to look at it much, bring on the album
cover looks like an advert for a new car.. why so many songs about sleep? be interesting to hear these 27 minute songs though when they come out.
Killswitch a few months back which was great, Avenged in August, and DT in Sep. What a great year for music!
My disappointment comes in my personal idea that you shouldn't self-title an album unless it's your first one or maybe your last one. Always thought self-titling an album was a cop-out on album naming. As for the tracks, well, it all sounds generic prog titles, but it is the music that counts. Hope Mike Mangini can do a better job, because ADTOE was a disappointment, for me at least.
