Paul Anthony of U.K.'s Rock Radio conducted an interview with vocalist James LaBrie of progressive metal giants Dream Theater this past Wednesday night (May 18). Click here to hear James talk about the departure of Mike Portnoy, the search for new drummer Mike Mangini and how much the band is looking forward to coming back to the U.K. for the High Voltage festival in July.

When asked about the status of the recording sessions for the follow-up to 2009's "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" album, LaBrie said, "Right now, I'm talking to you, and then, literally, within about a half an hour after we're done talking, I'm going into the studio and I start doing vocals for the new Dream Theater. So I'm about six songs into the album. I'm recording up in Canada, and as I'm recording my vocals, Jordan [Rudess] is currently recording his keyboards, piano and putting on all his amazing sounds from his various software that he has, and he's doing that down in New York. The drums, the guitar and the bass are all done, so it's just a matter of Jordan and I finishing our parts, and the mix is to commence... I think May 30 or the 31st we're supposed to start mixing the album. But it's all going incredible and it's all moving ahead. We're looking at an early September release - somewhere around the 7th or the 10th, somewhere around there is the release indication at this point."

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

New Dream Theater is always good! Black Clouds and Silver Linings was pretty awesome. Can't wait for this!

Nice, cant wait! Hopefully it will be a return to form and not more of the overtly "METALLLL" sound they had on BC&SL.

Nah some christians think that they will be abducted tomorrow and that us athests will suffer for 5 months first and THEN the world is going to end. Deep stuff with really solid arguments i tell you.

Fixed. Black Clouds was only really metal on Nightmare to Remember, Rite of Passage, and Shattered Fortress (and the latter was pretty much a given considering the heavy nature of the rest of the AA suite). The rest of it was in my opinion excellent. So in essence it was the best of both worlds. SC on the other hand was just too much.

It better not, I'll be at Rock on the Range. At least hold the apocalypse off until after alter bridge's set I'm very excited for the new DT album Why do radio guys always interview LaBrie? He has like the least credit into the creative aspects of the band. I worded that weird but you know what I mean

The world is actually ending in 2012, not tomorrow. December to be precise, because that's when John Petrucci is releasing his new solo album. There will be no survivors.

Can we just get news for important things, like album release dates, or when James LaBrie suffers a stroke and we can stop listening to his terrible voice? inb4 DT fanboys.
As said in the article heading for a early September release

we don't think we'll be abducted. whoever told you that? I think you are referring to the 'rapture', but thats only 140,000 people. also, there is nothing in the bible indicating the end of the world; just Armageddon. But even that wont END the world.

I like the way it was a "search for new drummer Mike Mangini." Like they picked him, and then spent ages looking around trying to find where he was hiding.
