Producer Butch Vig dropped an important announcement via Twitter, confirming that the new Foo Fighters album is officially finished.

Scheduled for November release, one month ahead of Dave Grohl's "Sonic Highways" documentary premiere on HBO, the record will mark the band's eight studio effort.

"We are officially done with the new Foo Fighters album. 23 straight days mixing! It's epic!" Vig shouted.

As for the mentioned documentary, the film follows Grohl and co. as they trek across the States, making stops in eight cities and recording one song in each of them. Along the way, the Foo fold is joined by the likes of Gary Clark Jr., Joe Walsh of the Eagles and Cheap Trick axeman Rick Nielsen.

As previously reported, Grohl has noted that although the album consists of just eight songs, it might turn out to be the group's longest effort. Stay tuned for more.

I wait for the day when the headline is "[band] finishes new album! [frontman] says "it's pretty crap and definitely not our best effort"

It's all about hindsight. When you're creating something it's always the best or should be at that time, afterwards though and you step back you can realise it is not perhaps your best work or any good. Hence why this scenario never occurs.

Seems like for a nice few years before Wasting Light came out, they were just the average big rock band. But after Wasting Light came out, it's like they turned it up to 11 and never turned it back down since. Excited to hear this new album.

I really really hope this holds up to the hype for it, I believe they can do it but I also don't want to be disappointed.

Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl! Grohl!

I don't want to be disappointed after premier. 'It's epic!', '8 studios - 8 tracks!', 'Lots of legends!'... bumper sticker talking.

Probably the album I am most keen for this year.

I just hope rock radio doesn't thrash the living hell out of it like they did with Wasting Light(an album I have just only recently begun to tolerate again). It ain't the Foo's fault, it's just that there are not many decent straight ahead hard rock bands releasing new stuff anymore

If they're longer songs, yeah radios can push for shortened edits. But 8 songs being their longest yet? I don't see how radio could do much with it.

Everybody relax. It's all good. It's the first thing that came to mind when I read the story's headline. Don't take anything too seriously, none of us are getting out of here alive.

I hope by epic they don't mean a couple extra verses and choruses. I hope they actually go beyond their comfort zone in this one.
    BealeStBlues
I don't think they mean epic in song length or structure. I think it means epic in massive sound.

As previously reported, Grohl has noted that although the album consists of just eight songs, it might turn out to be the group's longest effort. Pretty sure they mean both.

I'm excited that Gary Clark Jr. is on this record. He's a great guitarist and I hope this gets him more exposure. It will be interesting hearing how he fits in with the Foo Fighters.
    ironingman41
Gary Clark Jr! Sweet, is he guesting on a song or something?

If you didn't read the article, why would somebody bother to type you a response that you also won't read? Why am I typing this?

I love the Foos... I love Dave.... but argh the "obligatory Dave Grohl circle-jerk" that happens on this site every time his name is mentioned.... I've grown tired of it. Again- Im not dissing Dave- Im dissing the "If I say I love Dave Grohl then the group will accept me" thing... Argh. Listen to some punk. Listen to some weird arsed metal derivative. Whatever. Find what YOU like and screw what everyone else thinks!
    buddy1991
What a ridiculous comment. How do you know these people don't just actually love the Foo Fighters and the projects that Dave is a part of? I seriously doubt that anyone on Ultimate Guitar is lying, saying they like Dave Grohl JUST so people like their comments. That is seriously delusional and plain sad. Also, you're telling people to go listen to punk or metal, even when you just said that people should listen to what THEY like. How about you stop telling people what to listen to and let them like what they enjoy. Have a nice day.

I literally can't wait, even though I can because I have to, but still...this is going to be awesome.

After Wasting Light, i've been expecting something great from these guys. I really hope it's worth the hype
    ARom22
Now can we please hear something from it? Anything? A single? A soundbite? A 3-second clip? I have no doubt that it's gonna be solid, but all this hype should warrant at least a small clue as to what it'll actually sound like

23 straight days mixing? We did 3 songs in 4 hours
    igo147
...and that, kids, is the difference between an average mix and a polished, world-class mix.
    ironingman41
Your Damn Right there! @The Judist, you did 3 songs in 4 hours cos you dont know how to mix, and if thats your approach then you clearly know nothing about the recording/mixing process. unless you are CLA in disguise.
    The Judist
23 days on say, 11, 12, 14 tracks? That's between 1.5 to 2 days per song. Let's not make this about conjecture. When my album's done and the Foo's are done then you can compare and see if their extra 7-8hrs of mixing per track makes it a 600% better mix.
    zoobdo
If you read the whole article you will see its 8 songs.
    SCopeland24
Just because there are eight songs on the album doesn't mean there are just eight songs that were mixed. Bands tend to have b-sides and bonus tracks for certain markets like Japan. I'd say 10-12 songs were recorded in all and just 8 will make it on the proper LP release.
    Sparda3
They've stated that it will be 8 songs prior to the mixing sessions.
    katalyzt13
In addition to a lot of the other ridiculous aspects of your comments, you do realize they're doing their stuff analog on tape, right? Have you ever tried to mix and master something on an analog console on TAPE!? Essentially, if you're trying to compare it to digital mixing and the time it takes, then you're just really uninformed.
    The Judist
Thank you for an actual informative post there. Whether there's any benefit in analogue tape recording when the end product is mainly gonna be heard via a compressed digital file is another matter.
    ironingman41
i think its about time you stopped commenting on this post, surely the 200+ downvotes says enough.
    xstatic44
"My album." This comment in this context is atrocious. "My album".....in reference to the album of a musician who's been playing and recording music professionally since the mid-80s. Are you on hard drugs?
    ironingman41
well yeh, when your mixing an album thats gonna go multi platinum i think its worth an extra 7-8 hrs per track even if its only 50% better. its not like the foo's cant afford the studio time is it.
    The Judist
Pffft. That's the difference between working efficiently and booze + groupies
    herby190
Well, somebody with decades of experience like Butch Vig is going to do a lot more than an hour of work per song because he knows a lot more than you do, and won't be satisfied until they're up to his standards. That's why he's a pro. And seriously, if you mix a song in an hour, you do not give a rat's ass about that song. There are thousands upon thousands of different effects, mixing tricks, multi-tracking techniques and ways to EQ a song, there's no way an hour explored an even a fraction of the applicable options.
    BradTheBluefish
Judist, it is okay. I understand where you are coming from. Foo Fighters have a lot people with them, hanging out and what not, and so it could have easily taken them less than 23 straight days. A week or two would have been sufficient.
