Foo Fighters have discreetly announced plans to write a follow-up to "Wasting Light" in 2012.
As part of a thank you to fans for an award winning 2011, Dave Grohl discreetly added that he intends to write new songs next year.
"There are still more shows to play, more songs to write, more albums to record, for years to come," he said while acknowledging the work yet to be done for their current album. "I mean, if you would have told me 17 years ago that in 2012 I would be writing songs for our 8th studio album... well..."
Dave says the experience of making and releasing "Wasting Light" had been the best of their career. "I don't think we've ever worked so hard at making an album, and it ever being so easy.
"From day one, the idea for this record was to make something completely simple and honest, to capture that thing that happens when you put the 5 of us in a small room. No big production, just real rock and roll music: That's why we decided to do it in my garage."
Yesterday, iTunes named it Album Of The Year. It follows six Grammy nominations, and American Music Award and an MTV VMA for Best Rock Video. Whatever the Foos write next, it will have a lot to live up to.
