Foo Fighters have discreetly announced plans to write a follow-up to "Wasting Light" in 2012. As part of a thank you to fans for an award winning 2011, Dave Grohl discreetly added that he intends to write new songs next year. "There are still more shows to play, more songs to write, more albums to record, for years to come," he said while acknowledging the work yet to be done for their current album. "I mean, if you would have told me 17 years ago that in 2012 I would be writing songs for our 8th studio album... well..." Dave says the experience of making and releasing "Wasting Light" had been the best of their career. "I don't think we've ever worked so hard at making an album, and it ever being so easy. "From day one, the idea for this record was to make something completely simple and honest, to capture that thing that happens when you put the 5 of us in a small room. No big production, just real rock and roll music: That's why we decided to do it in my garage." Yesterday, iTunes named it Album Of The Year. It follows six Grammy nominations, and American Music Award and an MTV VMA for Best Rock Video. Whatever the Foos write next, it will have a lot to live up to.

Just because he starts writing it in 2012 doesn't mean it will be out the same year.

Yet another reason why I love Dave Grohl. And yeah, it might come out early 2013. (Maybe even late 2012) They have a lot of creative energy now that they have three guitarists again. Anyways, I know it will be wonderful and I await the moment the album comes out.

Fucking **** yes!! I guess it was only 'A Matter Of Time' until they were writing again. This album is going to cure aids and herpes and hepatitis, by the first single.

at this point the foo fighters last album was so awesome that i could wait about 5 years for a new one, but within the next two? today was a good day now.

Dave Grohl should never die. Lets hope it doesn't let us down, Wasting Light was too excellent.

Looking forward to it, in my opinion Wasting Light was one of the best albums of 2011. probably, another great record is on the way.

No, I dont want another Foos album. I want 2nd Vultures album by the end of next year since Homme will tour for next year with fresh album.JPJ, get those 2!

It shouldn't be hard to stay on-par with, in my opinion. I really don't see the big deal about Wasting Light. I'm not anti-Foo Fighters, but I think they're far from the best band in the world. Wasting Light was consistently tolerable -- nothing really bad on it -- but there was nothing on it I care to hear again. I wouldn't instantly turn the station if they came on the radio, but I'm not gonna be putting any of those songs on by myself, either. It doesn't even stand out among other Foo Fighters albums, to me. I still think the first one is the best so far.

Can't wait for this. I wasn't expecting it to be so soon. I'm definitely going to see their next tour, I saw my first Foo show in September in Detroit....amazing show, possibly the overall best I've seen.

Woooo! I hope it'll be as good as wasting light if not better. An album sorta like There is nothing to lose or something new for the foos would be cool.

TCV was underwhelming. Definitely a good group with some classic vibe too it but I just can't 100% jump on the Homme wagon. I find his lyrics to be way to formulaic. If he didn't sing/write lyrics I'd probably dig it way more.

I'm more excited for the new Hole album Lol jk.. But seriously, Foos are a great band, really looking forward to this, as well as a new album from Stereophonics!

I agree. Anyone else think in another year's time they'll be saying 'this is our hardest record in years' again? lawl

This! While another Foos album (and QOTSA, which will probably be next year) would be great, I really want TCV's next album.

That small piece of tape I got with the album is still very special to me! Hope they do something cool again, and make a killer album! Wasting Light is still my favorite album of this year.

I really wonder how they can top the last one, unless they record in the garage with Butch again? As like a follow on from wasting light? No matter what they decide though, it will be incredible!!

I think someones trying to reaad between the lines a little bit too much here. Groups can start writing songs years before they ever record them. Glad to hear Dave's already working on new material, but I doubt we'll hear any of it before 2013.

This is definitely good news but I hope they tour the U.S. again before the tour ends. They left out some pretty important places (Texas, Florida, Nashville, Las Vegas).

Oh thank god. I already can't wait. If all songs on Wasting Light were as rocking as Back & Forth, Arlandria, and White Limo. It might have been my favorite Alt Rock album ever.
