Godsmack Kick Off New Album Writing

"That's right motherf--kers!" the band enthusiastically says.

US heavy rockers Godsmack have officially confirmed writing material for their next studio effort, tentatively scheduled for an early 2014 release. "That's right motherf--kers! We are in Florida writing for the next album!" the group enthusiastically posted on Facebook along with the photo below. The four-piece previously shared two studio photos saying "Do you know what this means?" and "What about this?" After spending most of 2012 out on the road, Godsmack took a break throughout the greater part of the current year. According to frontman Sully Erna, the break was by all means in order. "We're going to take some time away now because we just ran for the last two years," he told Artist Direct. "It's time for us to take a break and get away from the markets for a little bit so we don't overplay them." The band's latest studio effort, "The Oracle," saw its release in May 2010 through Universal Records as the fifth record in Godsmack opus. It peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

nice! people seem to always rip on this band but i like them especially their first 3 albums the last one was ok but not even close to their earlier stuff
indeed. Godsmack were my gateway band into metal. I'm really hoping the next album goes a little back towards their roots. As much as I love Sully, I found his vocals and lyrics a bit lacking
My introduction to heavy music included Godsmack and Disturbed when both of their first albums came out. Godsmack will always be one of those bands I always buy the albums of.
Completely agree on all accounts... They too were my start to heavier music.
I'm stoked. The Oracle was a pretty good record. Hopefully they can continue in that direction. Shannon Larkin was one of my earliest influences, its great to see him still rockin.

and the stole the sun graphic from Dirt's liner notes.
Wow, that was news to me. Thanks for the info. Can't blame them for being AIC fans though. Maybe its more of a commemoration than plagiarism...I like a lot of Godsmack songs. Its become "cool" to hate on them, similar to the way its become cool to hate "Nickelback" I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but shouldn't blindly hate bands or music just because their peers do.
I think we should be supportive of any rockin' band that has decent tunes these days. It's getting to where you can't hear a new song worth listening to lately. Maybe heavy rock is becoming unmarketable, and who likes mediocre stuff? Rock stations are going off of the air, the ones still around freakin' yak all morning. I like to hear MUSIC on the radio when going to the Methadone clinic!
People hate Nickelback mainly because of Chad Kroeger and his godawful voice. Godsmack kinda fell into a spell of mediocrity with Faceless onward, though I would love for them to make something new and give it another shot. The self title and Awake were great albums.
They are far more than influenced by Alice... they flat out steal from them. Everything I mentioned above, AND and album called Faceless...after Alice's Facelift? I'm sorry, but much like Linkin Park, Godsmack fans are only fans through adolescent attachment... they came out when you were hormonally challenged, and you still love them for it... Good for you but don't justify them by claiming everyone borrows from their influences.
Awesome pics, i love music gear. Not a big fan of the band. But they look like cool guys either way. Im remembering them from the 90's, didnt know they were still kickin
I remember getting the cassette sampler from my local record store right before the self titled came out. Still digin' everything they do. Seen them live 4 times now, can't wait to see them again!
I have a fairly versatile collection of hard rock and heavy metal albums, and I don't care that Godsmack fits more on the hard rock side, but "Awake" is still one of the heaviest albums I own. They really captured a bludgeoning sound, on that record.

Yeah Awake is a great album. There is a lot of shit "hard rock' out there. but Awake is not one of them.

Give us more acoustic stuff, it's their best strength. The genric hard rock is not working it all sounds the same.
They obviously heard alice in chains new album and decided its time they got to work and "start writing some new material"
Hopefully he won't whine about life on the new stuff. They have so much potential if they'd just rock out. Then again, I stopped listening with Faceless.
I guess no one remembers that these dorks started out as an Alice cover band, stole their name from an Alice song, and on the first single had the singers voice treated to sound like Layne Staley right? Then that shitty voodoo song that ripped off Mad Season? They'd take a decent song associated with Alice In Chains, dumb it down with mediocrity, and sell it to the mainstream. Sweet formula. Guess there's still a market for that. They can stay in Florida.
And here we have a sour puss in it's natural habitat. Isn't he a beaut? Observe how it has nothing positive to say and is mainly making noises to be heard.
If you don't like the band, you don't have to read the article and comment on it. Pretty simple.

All bands start by trying to emulate their major influences. Godsmack have their own sound now. I only have their first 3 albums (i got bored of the same guitar solos in faceless) But i still have a lot of respect for them, and from what I can tell (having not seen them live, ever) Sully's voice was always way underrated to me..
Everybody steals and borrows from everybody else, there's really no such thing as 100% originality anymore with regards to music or movies or any other type of entertainment. It's all been done before and people need to get over the "this band ripped off that band" mentality and just enjoy the music for what it is and quit constantly comparing it because it makes no difference, you either like it or you don't and that's all there is to it.
Hopefully they change their live set. I saw them, live mix was excellent. If i understand correctly, and correct me if I'm wrong, that their set list has been the same for around ten years? also, i have to captcha to comment? wahhhhh :C

If you place a period at the end of a sentence and don't put a space between that and your next word, like where you said "excellent.If..." the site thinks you're trying to post a URL. It's an anti-spam measure that probably keeps a shit-ton of crap off the comments section.
only getting neg for the captcha... captchas suck. This is, however fantastic news. Also hoping to eventually see Sully in Army of the Damned
First band I ever got REALLY in to when I was younger. Seeing them live a couple years ago at a music festival was a great experience. Loved all their releases. The Oracle is an overall good album. Obviously not the best, but DAMN that instrumental at the end of the album gets me going. Hope to see more of that quality in the new album!
To me Godsmack's music is something I can enjoy on a passive level if it happens to come on the radio while in the car or something, but that's about it. I can't see myself buying their albums and repeatedly listening - it just ain't good enough. But they do know how to rawk!
