Godsmack frontman Sully Erna will offer a new solo album that has been seven years in the making. The record, dubbed Avalon, will be in stores on September 14, with the first single, "Sinner's Prayer," arriving at radio on August 3. The album will feature an array of guest players - such as classically trained cellist Irina Chirkova and percussionist Niall Gregory of Dead Can Dance - and Erna stresses that it is not a Rock record.

"I truly believe that this is my best work to date. I'm more proud of this record than any other music I have ever recorded," Erna wrote in a blog on Godsmack's MySpace page. "It is so pure and organic, every ounce of my blood, sweat and tears has been poured into this body of work. Without a doubt, I have completely exposed myself in this album. More importantly, it's just a very cool musical journey you go on when you listen through. Although, as I've said before, I must emphasize that This Is Not A Rock Record! This is a series of beautifully arranged compositions that I have created over many years. Some compositions are newer, written with the help of my solo band mates. Others have been shelved over time waiting for the right moment to be released. That moment is finally here, and I couldn't be more proud to share it with all of you!"

Erna goes on to explain that the album was recorded with instruments such as hand drums, cellos, flutes and piano, making it very different from his signature sound with Godsmack.

"It is very eclectic and intellectual. It is something that you will want to put on when you're in the mood to lie on your couch, dim the lights, and light all your candles and incense," he wrote. "Just vibe out to this hypnotic variety of music, and enjoy the pictures that will be painted in your mind. This is a very visual record, so for sure the visuals will come. Don't be surprised if it triggers some deep emotions within you based on your own life situations. Either way, enjoy the ride, it's a beautiful one!"

Thanks for the report to FMQB.com.

AS do I, Daron Malakian's stuff is questionable though, there is a few good songs from it, but not many.

Generic corporate rock along the lines of Nickelback/Linkin Park/Limp Bizkit/3 Doors Down etc. The guy just tries to sound like Layne Staley and has made a career out of it... even ripping off an Alice song for a band name after being an Alice cover band? I wish people would dig a little deeper for their music. There's a lot of good stuff out there that guys like Sully Erna are copying, repackaging, and selling. Someone mentioned that "Voodoo" song? Look up "Long Gone Day" by Mad Season and tell me that Godsmack didn't basically re-write that song?
i agree that godsmack and nickelback are the same type of shit, but voodoo is nothing like long gone day, its way worse obviously, but also just doesn't sound anything like it

I'm quite a big fan of Serj's solo stuff, ans Scars on Broadway are mostly good, though some songs are repetitive. I listen to Godsmack every now and then, so I'll be sure to at least check out Sully's solo album.

what about John Frusciante? He's written some of the most emotional songs in a long time. Or Eddie vedder's solo stuff is quite good too.

I liked Serj's solo stuff too. Very quirky. But I like SOAD better. Which is basically the best of Serj and Daron in one. I just hope they get back together.

This is only set for failure actually...saying things like: "More importantly, it's just a very cool musical journey you go on when you listen through. " and "Just vibe out to this hypnotic variety of music, and enjoy the pictures that will be painted in your mind. I am preparing for disappointment...but I sure hope it is as good as being described!!

He is a very sick drummer as well, from playing jungle-like music on bongos, to playing drums in a thrash metal band pre-Godsmack

He comes off very full of himself in this. I'm expecting "Voodoo" style music. Which is ok.

Contributions from a Dead Can Dance member? Not what I expected. I'll be keeping an eye out for this, but I won't be expecting anything spectacular.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'll go ahead and place my bet that this will be the most bland and/or repetitive album of the year.
