Good Charlotte are releasing a mix tape, "Before The Fame: The Madden Brothers", on October 1. It's all new artists Machine Gun Kelly, Rockie Fresh, guitarist Benji Madden tells Rolling Stone magazine. But after that, it's goodbye for a while.

We're stepping away from the grind of making records and touring for a minute, just to have fun and be creative like we were when we were 15, Benji says.

Good Charlotte released their last album, "Cardiology", in late 2010, their fifth album since their debut in 2000. The band has released albums "Greatest Remixes" (2008) and "Greatest Hits" (2010) to sum up their career so far.

Vocalist Joel Madden says he is relaxed about any hiatius. We're already having a blast in our studio with all these new artists making music just for fun. And the mix tape's free, they're gonna get it for free, there's no quota we're trying to fill, there's no machine we're trying to fuel, we just want to make music with new artists and god bless EMI [the band's recording label], they let us do what we want.

Thanks for the report to Michael Leonard, Gibson.com

Last I heard about them I was in middle school. That was like 9-10 years ago, I figured they died off a long time ago. Maybe they should turn that hiatus into what I thought already happened.
