Despite recent denials it seems that Van Halen ARE in the studio and that we can expect a new album next year.

Last month reports emerged that the band were back in the studio recording their first new album since 1998 and their first with Dave Lee Roth since 1984. These reports were then quickly denied by the band.

BUT now a statement has been released by the band's record label that says that they ARE in the studio.

The news comes as Warner/Chappell Music extended their publishing deal with Eddie and Alex Van Halen, and a statement was issued that ended with:

"Most recently, the band toured with founding brothers, Eddie and Alex Van Halen, its original lead singer, David Lee Roth, and Eddie's son, Wolfgang, playing bass. The group is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011."

We will most definitely bring you more on this one as and when we get it.

Thanks for the report to PlanetRock.com.

Hello? Hello! Yeah, I'd like 2 halfway decent songs written especially for radio play and 10 songs of filler....to go!

Don't worry, it'll probably be plenty cheesy.

Sweet. I'm surprised at a lot of comments here. There's actually someone in the band now that created their reunion setlist with some of the best DLR material the band ever wrote, AND has actual sway over Ed to keep him out of pop territory. Wolfgang might not have anthony's vocals, but he seems to know what people want- a return to their early style- and has a voice Ed will listen to. When did they listen to mike? I don't want to put my hopes to high, but I'm pretty excited to hear what comes of this. Also, it's kinda sad to read comments like, "people seem to like this band for it's guitar player, and I don't think he's that good." Really? He may not be the best right now, but listen to the era VH I came after, than listen to the era following that release. I'm talking influential, groundbreaking and shocking. No one rags on the beatles, even though they wouldn't even get a record deal now.

I'm curious, which shows at what venue? 2004 was a trainwreck. Ed was hammered beyond belief at 95% of the shows, screwing up the simplest of songs such as The Seventh Seal, Right Now & Best Of Both Worlds. Ed had a few off nights in 07 (Vegas & Oakland come to mind) but was ten times the player he was in 2004.

Ha! Whatever jethro Tull. Lol. I'll take VH III over any jethro album. Hell, I'd take green day over jethro. Sorry chief. Given the ticket sales of the last tour...people care. The only real question is whether the new stuff is any good. I'm guessing going a year of playing the DLR stuff every night should help them rekindle some of that old feeling. Maybe. Time will tell. No point saying whether it will suck or be incredible at this point. If maiden can still put out quality stuff, there's no reason VH can't.

****ing right! about goddamn time! They have many years of "that other singer" that needs to be damn well made up for!

woah wait a second... Michael Anthony is going to be on the album, right? not that goddamn kid... right?

Isn't their last recording with DLR in 1996? They did 2 new songs on "Best of Volume I." Anyways, is it really worth making an album without Michael Anthony? You shouldn't call it Van Halen, you should call it: A Tribute To Van Halen (which they should have done when DLR left, as well). Everyone in the original VH was a major role, without Mike it's not worth it.

Wouldn't get a record deal? Bull shit. Probably wouldn't be as influential, but their hits definitely hold up to this date.

i think its bs his son is the bassist instead of someone who actually deserves the spot or should truly be there hint hint anthony!

I think it has potential, but I'm really afraid that it'll be a huge letdown. Either that, or Eddie will start being a jerk to Roth in the studio, and they will break up again.

I'm worried too but I was when they came out with "It's About Time" and I was not disappointed. The beginning of it sounded like that strayed from the brown sound with that drop D riff but then as soon as he hits those harmonics, it was back to good ol EVH. It is going to be different with Roth back in the game though. I'm a Van Hagar fan...

I'm seriously stoked but i'm scared it's going to be like Chinese Democracy was for Guns n' Roses. It could be really good or a huge letdown

I did the same thing and the Sammy show was one of the best concerts Ive been to, as for the Roth show I found it very dissapointing.

I wouldn't mind hearing some experimentation with song structures, guitar techniques, and different instruments. I think what you mean to say is "I hope they don't record an electronic pop album with rap cameos".
That is what I meant, I should have been more specific but of course we want guitar driven riffy rock! Please no top 40 cameos, van halen does not need that, first album with Roth in 26 years, lets hope they hit the roots! a littl eany way, GOD BLESS Van Halen!

You know you're old when your son is playing bass in your band. This is interesting though.

As i remember from their 2007 tour, his bass playing isn't in question. His backup vocal abilities (or lack thereof) are what made it very apparent that the band was missing Anthony, whether Eddie will ever admit it or not.

meh..... not my cup of tea and I am more then surprised that people find it so amazing, a lot of people seem to like this band for their guitar player but I don't think he's that good and the rest of the band is IMO just pop-rock, but we will wait and be open minded I guess....

if they release a sell-out album aimed for the mainstream audience, i'm going to burn eddie's frankstrat.

+1. Anthony's backing vocals make some VH songs, to be honest. But despite his absence, I really hope they deliver with a great album.
