Korn And Slipknot Record Charity Song For Deftones Bassist

Members of Korn and Slipknot have teamed up to record a charity song to raise money for hospitalised Deftones bassist Chi Cheng. The 38-year-old star slipped into a coma following a car crash in Santa Clara, California last November. Cheng was taken off life support systems earlier this month and is said to be in a semi-conscious state as he recovers. His family have set up an appeal to help raise money to cover his medical bills and now Cheng's music industry pals have stepped up to help. Korn bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and drummer Ray Luzier have joined forces with former member Brian "Head" Welch, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root, and Sevendust's Clint Lowery to record an instrumental track to benefit Cheng and his family. A release date for the unnamed song has yet to be announced. Thanks for the report to Gigwise.com.

Not arguing, heated discussion. It's the internet, what do you expect?
Haha xD I based my assumption on them making 1 dollar per cd. Even if i cut that to 50cents thats still 300.000 each. I'm sure they've lost a lot of money from medical bills and i'm sure thats hurt the pocket quite abit. but let me quote something from the artical for you:
His family have set up an appeal to help raise money to cover his medical bills and now Cheng's music industry pals have stepped up to help
AND NOW CHENGS MUSIC INDUSTRY PALS HAVE STEPPED UP TO HELP. So yes they are asking fans for money to pay medical bills aswel as setting up this "product" for us to purchase aswel.

checked and returned to 'heated discussion' level. If the arguments and flaming continues then bans will be given out.

wot a con!!! why cant the deftones pay for it and keep the public out of it?? or why dont the various members of each band just pay for it and not make such a big deal!!! wot about all the other people ill or in comas !! are they gonna do the same for them!!! scamming ****s!!!

lol why does it say slipknot? One guitarist from that band being involved shouldn't mean the entire band gets to be in the headline.

Not to sound like an ***** but.... No, we in norway have the best quality and we dont have to pay if its a life or death situation. When you cant get treatment when you dont have enough money is cold. I think its wrong.

how does hospitals expect us to pay for a medical bill of whatever it is that cheng has to pay and then not die from it. its like, ur dying so we're going to take care of you but u have to give us your life in return. what's the point of getting healthy and give them my life saving? i rather just not get well so they have to keep me. and if they neglect my life or kick me out, well, then, they will be hearing from the civil rights activists and be sued. after that, i take the money and give it to those who can't afford their bills. aside from that, where are his bandmates the deftones in this equation? are they not helping? is the headline, " Korn And Slipknot Record Charity Song For Deftones Bassist " more important than, " Deftones lend a hand for injured band member. "? everyone gets injured everyday for a car accident. where's their aid?

Apparently you don't realize how the recording industry works. The majority of the money from record sales goes straight back to the record company - the bands barely see any of what is made. Not a fan of the Deftones but I hope Chi gets well soon.
Aparently you can't read. I said if they got ONE DOLLAR! thats the absolute bare minimum they could get. So yeah learn to read before you start smart mouthing.

Yeah. God forbid anyone should have to take responsibility for anything in their lives. For ****'s sake, even though this is a ****ed up situation it's a perfect example of why nationalized health care is NOT a good idea. He's in a coma because he wasn't wearing a seat belt. Personal choice; personal responsibility. Guess you're okay with the government thinking for you too, right? I mean, if you want them to care for you like parents then you'd be willing to do as they say like you are a child, right?

um. you apparently need to educate yourself politically. ( to everyone who reads this: This is the kind of person that is ruining our country.)

The government should pay for healthcare? LOL, where do you think the government gets money? Who in their right mind supports giving billions of dollars to a bunch of lawyers, who take their cut, and then in turn distribute the rest as they see fit? If you were wondering why medical expenses are going up it's because of increasing government involvement. Anyway, good luck to Chi. I hope he continues to recover.

Actually, no, that's not the absolute bare minimum they could get. A lot of bands make less than a dollar per cd.

You do realize that bands sign their contracts BEFORE they're multiplatinum sellers, right? Why do you think so many bands want to push out albums to get out of their contracts once they make it big? You're making an awful lot of assumptions. Not only are you making a lot of assumptions about the legal side of the record industry of which I doubt you know very much. But you're also making specific assumptions about the record deal that the Deftones made when they signed of which I know you know absolutely nothing. So, before you tell anyone else to think, maybe you should be the one to think about how much of what you think you KNOW is actually fact and how much is just assumption.

another person who can't read. i said ONE DOLLAR! There is no way that anyone gets paid less than that for their work.

People don't want the government involved in their health care , but they have no trouble trusting the government with running an army, and protecting/taking the lives of people? That's ****ed up logic.

Bullshit bro Deftones have sold over 3 million records collectivly. even if they only got 1 dollar for all their albums (not even counting live shows and merch) Theres only 5 of them so thats 600.000 dollars each( and that was just a round up of what theyve sold theres probably nearly 4.000.000) then add live shows and merch to that THEN ontop of that shit youve got endorsment deals and not having to pay for their own equipment... I'd say he has plenty of ****in money man. Get well soon Chi.
if he had all that money, they probably wouldnt be taking collections. thats what people do when they need money. when people have money, they dont start charity funds for themselves. i hope you have a better grasp on this now. anyway, i love chi and the deftones. i really, really hope he wakes up soon...its been too long without him.

I just hope he gets better soon and they can put the new album out quicker. And to all the flamers - the guys who are doing thas are his FRIENDS, wanting to help a FRIEND who's doing it tough. What's wrong with that? Why shouldn't someone help their mate if they want to, however that may be? And I'm pretty sure Chino, Stephen, Frank and Abe would have donated money towards his bills also. Deftones FTW.

Good to hear that Slipknot and Korn teams up to help Chi. I'm not a huge fan of any of the bands, like all of them but not a huge fan. But even if this were for pop musicians it would have been a great thing!

How do you figure? Doctors in America fxck up just as much as any other doctors in the world, if not more, even though we have to pay. Why do you think their malpractice insurance rates are so high? Also, he's been in the hospital for sixth months, was on life support some of that time, and is still in a coma. Even if he had $600,000, I would not be surprised if his bill turns out to be well over that. Plus, do people think musicians horde all the money they make off of touring, CD's, and merch? No, they buy houses, cars, I'm sure they give some to their families, and then there is just everyday living expenses. Get well Chi, hope you make it out alright.

Read you constitution sir, organization of national defense is one of only two original functions of the federal government (the other being regultation of intersate commerce, and the levy of taxes on imports). BTW Bands make most all thier money from touring, even then most live modestly at best, maybe a bmw and a 3500 square foot house. The label will usually front a band some money for studios and setting up a tour, but usually that gets paid back in the end. Get well chii, and thank god some piss poor state run health care system didnt pull the plug early because it was "too bloody expensive to keep him alive."

So... are life-support machines in America coin-operated, or...? (also, get well soon Chi and much support to the musicians helping out their FRIEND).

Yeah. And besides, don't you want to help out anyway? Not everyone in music is freakin' rich, and we are dealing with the medical industry. 10 thousand for a finger reattachment. Not easy for anyone.

visiofx : heard the new album's called Magnetic Death
man, the new Deftones' album is called EROS. btw, great for Chi. I wonder what Munky and J.Davis are thinking about Head joining Fieldy and Ray...

Bad title; you can't really say the two bands are getting together to record it if it's one artist from each... plus a member who isn't in one of the bands anymore... plus another band's artist... Sounds like a good idea though; nice to see musicians collaborate like this.

Hope he gets better. Far too many great musicians have died this year already. Good to know he's getting better.

This song will be amazing... hopefully it'll get a lot of airplay support just like 7D's "Angel's Son" did. I knew that this song would have at least one member of 7D involved. This rules. Can't wait for EROS!
