Leonard Cohen will reportedly release a new studio album in time for his 80th birthday next month, NME reports.
The singer's last album came in 2012 and Rolling Stone reports that a new album titled "Popular Problems" is set to follow when he celebrates turning 80 on September 21. However, Cohen is not believed to be planning any live dates around the release.
A representative for Cohen would not confirm news of the album but Jarkko Arjatsalo, the man in charge of his official website broke the news at Leonard Cohen Event 2014, an officially sanctioned fan convention held in Dublin held this weekend (August 7-10).
Writing a foreword to the official event booklet, Arjatsalo wrote: "Leonard has worked hard on his next studio album of entirely new songs. He asked me to let you know that 'Popular Problems' will be out at the end of September, shortly after his 80th birthday."
Last year Cohen played a new song while on tour in the UK. He performed the new track for the first time at Dublin's O2 Arena on September 12. Titled "I've Got A Secret," it uses some lyrics from another unreleased song, "Feels So Good," which was debuted on Cohen's 2009 tour and has appeared on numerous setlists since, but has not been released as an official recording.
