Marilyn Manson Goes Punk?
2
Shock rocker Marilyn Manson's forthcoming album is going to be a punk rock affair, according to his guitarist. Speaking to The Blairing Out with Eric Blair Show, Twiggy Ramirez (aka Jeordie White) said Manson's eight studio album is kind of like a little more of a punk-rock Mechanical Animals, referring to the 1998 album. Ramirez said that the album was almost done and would most likely be out in 2011. It's fantastic, he said. It's our best record yet, I think. I mean, everyone always says that, but I think this is our best work so far. The guitarist rejoined Manson's band in 2008, after a split that lasted seven years. While away, he played bass for the alt-rock supergroup A Perfect Circle. That band has recently reunited, but Ramirez isn't involved, at least not in a full-time capacity. I might do a song or two with them at an L.A. show, he said. But for the next couple of years my priorities are with Marilyn Manson. Thanks for the report to Bryan Wawzenek, Gibson.com.

Well, Manson said the new album is sounding very "death metal" - and now twiggy is saying its sounding "punk." Hum, i'm actually looking forward to this, a punk-death metal album. I hope its better than the last two albums :\

Thanks Mikus. While they're both weirdos, Bowie was never an ass about it. He wouldn't get up in people's face about it, and - much more importantly - he didn't dress in a suit for television appearances. When he was Ziggy Stardust he was glam all the way all the time. Manson tones down the weird when he wants to look normal, and turns it back up when he wants to piss off rednecks. That is hypocrisy. You can't willingly censor yourself and then cry censorship. Also, Bowie has never EVER made more than three records in a row with a similar sound. That even counts other people's records that he's worked on. He has explored more musically that any other male pop/rock vocalist ever has, and even after producing three times more records than Manson, he's still got fewer rehashed, samey-sounding tracks. Shit, even the Tin Machine records were good rock records, considering the they came out in the early 90s and weren't grunge or thrash. If I had to pick a modern-day Bowie band, the only thing I could come up with would be The Flaming Lips. But to his credit (and back on topic), the first few Manson records were pretty good. I remember listing to Antichrist Superstar with my Dad when my mother wasn't around, and even he agreed they were catchy as hell. The man just doesn't know how to stay relevant, and now it's probably too late.

Agreed, and that was kinda what I was getting at with the comment that Bowie will do anything that tickles his fancy, music-wise. Manson won't.

Bleh... I guess I'll treat this as Manson's chance to redeem himself after a decade of shitty albums. If he ****s this up, he shall be officially obsolete.

So Manson isn't really Manson. Interesting assertion. I think he would disagree. But hell, forge that...we would actually have to talk to the guy to let him explain things about HIMSELF. Let's just go on making random assumptions about why he does the things he does. We obviously know him much better than he knows himself.

Interesting... Last I heard, he had said it was going to be "suicide metal". I'm sure whatever it is, it will be great. He never ceases to amaze me.

I do love to see how UG distorts a small quote like that: kind of like a little more of a punk-rock Mechanical Animals I read that as: "think of the Mechanical Animals sound and add a sprinkle of punk." UG headlines the article "Marilyn Manson Goes Punk?", conjuring thoughts like: "ZOMG!! HE'S GOING TO TRY TO SOUND LIKE THE SEX PISTOLS!"

I disagree. Manson is the new Bowie. Just like Tools the new Pink Floyd.

Look, Im a long time Manson fan, his music helped me get into alternative music along with Nirvana...I will readily admit that he has fallen somewhat from grace in the last few years, and that essentially, after Twiggy left, the music went downhill and he got wrapped up in his own image, and that his divorce from Dita and subsequent on again off again flings with Evan Rachel Wood meant that his lyrics lost some of their insight and became cliched and rather drab, but go back and reappraise the last two albums, there are great tracks on them, even if they arn't strong albums as a whole, seems to me he's had a bit of a midlife crisis to be honest, what he needs is to stop believing in Marilyn Manson the image, and fire himself up again, being dropped from his record label (last year I believe) has hopefully helped do this, honestly,I don't reckon it'll be amazing, but I still hold out hope

his musical content is always good. let's just hope he hops of the "me" train and actually writes something half-way intelligent instead of just jizzing a load of "shocking-ness" in everyone's faces. if he tries to write something with a real message like the old days, the controversy will take care of itself.

"Little Changes"? WoW. Listen to the first...it's like industrial metal kinda stuff, Anti-Christ, mainly hasrd rock/metal, Mechanical Animals, just Rock with a lighter sound to it, Holy Wood, just rock, Golden Age Of Grotesque, electronic rock/metal Eat Me Drink Me, just goth rock, and The High end Of Low, also, just rock. Sure, mainly it's rock. But musically, he changes quite a lot. Vocally, not usually, but that's not as easy to change. Ah well.... ...Does someone want to tell me why you are posting negative comments which are just plain nasty on an article about a musician which you hate so immensely?

Uhm, I guess I mean "Only Tools think Tool is the new Pink Floyd.". Bands like Minus the Bear and the Flaming Lips are more like Floyd than Tool ever were. Tool were more reminiscent of King Crimson.

Bullshit bullshit bullshit. Manson is not shocking. He never was. He was simply the poster boy for the "satanic youth" when he started. Nobody was shocked when he came out, they were appalled.
