The pioneering masked madmen Mushroomhead have locked themselves in their private studio at the Filthy Hands compound in Cleveland, Ohio to begin work on their seventh studio release, which is due out summer 2009 via Megaforce. Produced by co-founding member and drummer Steve "Skinny" Felton, the yet-to-be-titled album promises to be the band's "most violent- and epic-sounding to date!"

"Hell yeah, let's go!" states Felton. "After producing the last six albums, I know what these guys can do and once again they are killing it! The cool thing about working with Mushroomhead is that there is always an idea on the table and someone brings it to the next level. Every time someone tracks they raise the bar for the rest of the records, thank God! They call each other out, they play each other's parts they even fistfight! Their passion is undeniable and that is what rock and roll is all about! The sound is super-dark and creepy and even violent at times."

Keyboardist Shmotz adds: "The new album is off to a great start and is full of aggression and intensity, although it is tough to be creative and keep a solid drug habit with all of the illegal downloading and file sharing these days!"

In otehr news, Fangoria magazine and Mushroomhead have entered into a strategic partnership which will see the band performing at their upcoming Weekend of Horrors conventions in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City this year. Fangoria Entertainment's Scott Licina states: "Mushroomhead is one of those unique acts that defy musical labels, regardless of image or demographic categorization. The theatricality of their stage presentation is full out horror show, yet the songs themselves are amazingly diverse and complex, a far cry from the sonic banality of many of their contemporaries. These are true musicians, who not only know how to rock it hard, but also understand the importance of substance and melody, and subtlety and timing. Their music is as rich as their showmanship, and that's extremely rare in the world of alt metal. It's the combination of all these high levels of excellence that makes Mushroomhead a great audio counterpart for Fangoria Entertainment. We pride ourselves on demanding the highest of standards for all our endeavors, and including the band into our 30th anniversary Weekend Of Horrors events was an easy and natural decision. We insist on the best for our readers and attendees, and having Mushroomhead do a special performance at the Shock-N-Roll Spooktacular fits that exacting criteria perfectly."

"Volume 2", the latest DVD from Mushroomhead, sold 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 7 on the Top Music Videos chart.

The follow-up to the band's 2005 DVD release "Volume 1", "Volume 2" (Filthy Hands/Megaforce) features two-and-a-half hours of pure mayhem, including exclusive never-before-seen content, live footage from the past three years on the group's "Savior Sorrow" tour, and music videos (including "Headbanger's Ball" 2007 "Video Of The Year" "1200", "Simple Survival", and the band's brand new video "Save Us"). Other extras include video commentary, behind-the-scenes footage and band antics.

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

yeah if there was ever to be an "original" mask wearers it'd be mushroomhead, and it is a little cliche now, but that is because bands copied them, not their fault (for the record i like Slipknot). But i'm excited about a new record, should be good stuff. and the quote about it being hard to maintain a drug habit with all the illegal downloading was hilarious

Yeah Mushroomhead has been around since before Slipknot. And for those who are complaining about waylan he was appointed by J-Mann from what i've heard.

Oh hell yeah! Can't wait to hear it! I enjoyed Savior Sorrow a bit, even though I must admit it was a drop in level from their old stuff. Hail to the original mask wearers!

I'm curious what kind of music this is
mushroomhead has been around since 92 buddy. theyre more original then you credit them to be. slipknot got the mask idea from them. i believe theyre considered nu/industrial metal. i dunno i own XIII and some of there was pretty nu [correct me if im wrong]. learn before you talk.

Finally. I was wondering when they'd come out with something new everytime i listen their music. I don't think Waylon sucks. I miss J.Mann in Mushroomhead, but lately i've been into some PITCH BLACK FORECAST and STATE OF CONVITION... It's pretty awesome to hear some new stuff from him. Waylon + Jeffrey is a great combination too, anyway.

Yucky, mushrooms taste gross, so I'm gonna base my opinion of this band solely of that.

haha...otehr...thats funny. no seriously, everybody who is a slipknot fan better give it up for these guys. cuz ill say this much, even though i dont prefer mushroom head, its thanks to them that we have the screamo heavy metal blend stuff. even though i think its overrkill how we use it, mushroomhead earned their place. all in all i still like slipknot better though ^_^

w00t! I think I'm the only person on this board who is: 1. A Slipknot AND Mushroomhead fan 2. A fan of Savior Sorrow AND Mushroomhead's older music 3. A fan of Waylon's AND Jmann's singing. Seriously guys, I hate it when people have to be so stubborn and close-minded when it comes to music. No one copied anyone (Slipknot and Mushroomhead feud)! And does it really matter? And Waylon isn't 'lighter' than Jmann! I think they are both different and good in their own ways! On a related note, I am EXTREMELY stoked about this album. I can't wait for it to come out!

totally agree, but miss the philosophical deep thoughts from j.mann. ha

sorry about the grammar, I'm dutch. I never brought up Slipknot by the way but of course it did spring to mind. And I sometimes really do enjoy a cow pasture, but not when I'm playing music. Anyway; I'll give it a listen and maybe I'll even start enjoying it, as long as I won't have to look at the video's cause I really can't stand the masks, I'm sorry.

I can't watch their videos or see them live because when Jeffery Nothing doesn't have a long sleeved shirt on, his arms look like bird legs and it ruins that "aggressive edge" that he has. They don't seem as "heavy" without Bronson either. I used to love Mushroomhead(I was going to get the militia mask tattooed on my back) but after Savior Sorrow, I can't even listen to their old stuff and get into it. Hopefully the new CD is better and can get me back into their music.
    Agreed.

I love how people see the masks and always bring up Slipknot. Mushroomhead was around long before Slipknot, they used to wear plain black mask with Xs on it so they be faceless and you couldn't bitch about tehir looks, you could only judge them on the music. After XX They did start to get a bit more creative with the masks, although nothing like Savior Sorrow(which went too far into the comical, did Pig Benis really need to have a ****ing pig head? Pig, their bassists, is the guy in the pic btw). I am one of the people who blame Waylon for the more radio friendly sounding Savior Sorrow and his drive to do whatever it takes to be famous. Mushroomhead is truly one of those bands that you can't easily put into only one or two genres. One last thing FUCK WALYON, JASON WAS BETTER AND BRONSON IS NEEDED IN THIS BAND!

They have a destinct style, (even tho slipknot copied, or tried to), their shows are phenominal, and each memeber is greatly talented at what they do. I believe the bassist, pig benis, is one of the best metal bassists out there today. highly underrated band, cant wait for the release.

Thank god . just this morning I thought to myself, "What I really need now is a band I've never heard of in strange pig masks to release an album." Honestly, my day couldn't get any better! what are they, like thrash or something?
