New Pearl Jam Album Coming In 'Nine To Twelve Months'

We might be in for a new Pearl Jam release this year after all, guitarist Stone Gossard reveals.

Apart from frontman Eddie Vedder saying the band is 'maybe halfway there' with the new studio album, we haven't really heard much regarding new music from Pearl Jam recently.

Well that all changed after Stone Gossard's recent interview on Italian radio, says Grunge Report. Despite not being too precise, the guitarist has revealed that the new release might even be due this year.

"I cannot tell you an exact date, but if all goes according to plan, we will have a new Pearl Jam album in nine or twelve months", said Gossard. Since it's February, this basically means the "Backspacer" follow-up can be expected somewhere between November 2013 and February 2013. As far as the musical direction of the forthcoming release goes, Vedder wasn't all that precise either, stating that 'it sounds like it sounds like'. "It just comes out. It sounds like it sounds like. We really work together as a unit these days. It's really the compilation of all the parts. It's not like one guy trying to tell everybody, 'These are my songs. This is what it should sound like.' We've figured out after all these years that if everybody just puts their stamp on it, then it sounds how we want it to. Then it sounds new, 'cause everyone is growing, you know. Everyone is growing after all these years", the frontman tells. Bassist Jeff Ament has recently revealed that the group has had a meeting with producer Brendan O'Brien, the man in charge of the production duties on several Pearl Jam releases such as "No Code", "Yield", "Vitalogy" and "Vs.". He was also at the helm of production on the band's latest album, "Backspacer", released back in September 2009 via Monkeywrench Records. You glad to see things cooking up here or what? Are you looking forward for their first release in almost four years? Let us know in the comments section below.

It's Pearl Jam, of course I'm excited, it's the same as asking, if I would be happy if there was a naked chick with whipped cream on the right parts in my bedroom.

Hope they improve on Backspacer. It had it's moments, but songs like "Got Some" and "Johnny Guitar" are filler at best. I agree that Cameron needs to stay with SG. It's amazing... he's one of the best in the world with SG, but sounds boring within the standardized confines of PJ. They've made a couple solid albums with him, but overall the pairing has been disappointing. I thought he'd push them and make them a little more proggy. Instead they took the piss out of his drumming. Jack Irons suited them best if you ask me. Him or Krusen.

either Jack Irons or Dave Abbruzzes.. dave has a lot of groove that makes Jeff Ament's baseline shine too..also love Jack Irons work in Yeild

As much as I love Matt Cameron's work in Pearl Jam, they should replace him. He's obviously enjoying the success that being back in Soundgarden has brought. The constant touring and recording pressures of two of the biggest rock bands of all time can't be good for him. For Matt's sake, they should at least have a "touring drummer" for Pearl Jam and keep Cameron for the studio stuff.

From the article "Since it's February, this basically means the "Backspacer" follow-up can be expected somewhere between November 2013 and February 2013." I think somebody meant 2014 =)

After taking what's nearing on what, five years now, it better be longer than a ****ing half an hour like Backspacer.

I'm really excited to see this! Hopefully they play some more aggressive stuff than Backspacer. As much as I enjoyed that album, it just wasnt what I wanted to hear from Pearl Jam.
