Apart from frontman Eddie Vedder saying the band is 'maybe halfway there' with the new studio album, we haven't really heard much regarding new music from Pearl Jam recently.
Well that all changed after Stone Gossard's recent interview on Italian radio, says Grunge Report. Despite not being too precise, the guitarist has revealed that the new release might even be due this year.
"I cannot tell you an exact date, but if all goes according to plan, we will have a new Pearl Jam album in nine or twelve months", said Gossard. Since it's February, this basically means the "Backspacer" follow-up can be expected somewhere between November 2013 and February 2013. As far as the musical direction of the forthcoming release goes, Vedder wasn't all that precise either, stating that 'it sounds like it sounds like'. "It just comes out. It sounds like it sounds like. We really work together as a unit these days. It's really the compilation of all the parts. It's not like one guy trying to tell everybody, 'These are my songs. This is what it should sound like.' We've figured out after all these years that if everybody just puts their stamp on it, then it sounds how we want it to. Then it sounds new, 'cause everyone is growing, you know. Everyone is growing after all these years", the frontman tells. Bassist Jeff Ament has recently revealed that the group has had a meeting with producer Brendan O'Brien, the man in charge of the production duties on several Pearl Jam releases such as "No Code", "Yield", "Vitalogy" and "Vs.". He was also at the helm of production on the band's latest album, "Backspacer", released back in September 2009 via Monkeywrench Records. You glad to see things cooking up here or what?
