Ex-Pantera and current Down frontman Phil Anselmo talks about his first-ever solo album, "Walk Through Exits Only," due to release in July, Metal Hammer reports.

But he's warned fans not to expect "a paint-by-numbers thrash or metal record."

Anselmo wrote, recorded vocals and co-produced the work, and it'll be launched via his own label, Housecore Records.

Anselmo says: "It's an angry album that only I could do. I don't see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit Im screaming about."

"On this album there isn't any wordplay, there isn't any hidden message. It's all right there in front of you."

"Walk Through Exits Only" will be released under the band name Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals. Eight tracks will appear on the disc with titles including "Battalion Of Zero" and "Usurper's Bastard Rant." The band are planning a North American tour during the summer.

The vocalist recently said he felt sorry for former Pantera bandmate Vinnie Paul, who's never attempted a reconciliation with him since the death of Dimebag in 2004.

"People should pity the guy," Anselmo said. "I wasn't there when Dime was murdered but he sure as f--k was. That's his flesh and blood, murdered right in front of him. The healing process would have been beneficial to him instead of his knee-jerk reaction to fear, and his therapy through tit-bars and whisky."

It's silly to suggest Phil is to blame for a severely deranged schizo nutjob killing one of his former bandmates. An only semi-well known fact about the Dimebag killing is that this wasn't Nathan Gale's first Damageplan show. Weeks earlier, Gale was at a Damageplan show and actually went up on stage and started acting crazy, a struggle ensued and he ended up getting his ass kicked and thrown out by the security team. This first incident was almost certainly the last straw that led to Gale coming to their Columbus,OH show, rushing up on the stage on that fateful night and popping 5 holes in poor Dime's head. I am embarrassed to say that Columbus is my home town. It is very surreal, but mostly tragic of course. my $0.02
That shot at Vinnie was kind've low.
Kinda, but it's coming from someone who did actually go through said healing process, a pretty extensive one to my understanding. Now Vinnie is starting to look like the Phil that everybody hated, by coping with his problems in all the wrong ways..
Phil is indirectly responsible for Dimebag's death, so I give no ****s about this album.

If Phil wasn't suck a prick ****bag Pantera never would have broken up. Thats the exact reason why Vinnie never talks to Phil. Vinnie blames Phil for Dimebag's death. As he should. Are you calling Vinnie an idiot for blaming Phil? You are not a true fan of Pantera then

That's the shittiest explanation I've ever heard. I haven't called Vinnie anything and I don't care if he's talking to Phil or not but the thing is you can't make Phil responible for Dime's death - directly or indirectly. And by the way I'm a huge Pantera fan.
I'm not gonna get drawn into an argument but that is one of the most idiotic things I have ever read. Dime was murdered by a ****ing headcase with a gun. Bands break up all the time - you don't just murder the ex-members.
If I have a fight with someone in my house and they run outside and get hit by a car, is it my fault that they got hit by a car?
