Could Phish be ready to reunite? According to an online report, the beloved jam band will do exactly that at some point in the near future, when it hits the studio to make an album with producer Steve Lillywhite, reports Billboard.com.

Phish broke up in August 2004 following a blowout concert in its home state of Vermont. Of late, rumors have heated up that a reunion might be in store, based on comments guitarist Trey Anastasio has made in interviews.

All four members were also on hand in New York last month to accept a lifetime achievement award from the Jammys, but did not perform live or address the possibility of a reunion. A Phish spokesperson was unavailable for comment at deadline.

Lillywhite previously produced Phish's 1996 album Billy Breathes. Through a spokesperson, he offered a no comment to Billboard when asked if he was planning to work with the band again. At present, Lillywhite is in Dublin recording with U2, with whom he's collaborated for three decades.

Since disbanding, Phish's members have released a wealth of solo and collaborative music, often featuring each other. Due up next is an album from bassist Mike Gordon, The Green Sparrow, due Aug. 5 via Rounder, which features guest turns from Anastasio and keyboardist Page McConnell.

Phish's web site has also offered the regular release of archival live material. Due Aug. 5 is the double-DVD set Phish Walnut Creek, taped July 22, 1997, at the Raleigh, N.C., venue of the same name. Fans who pre-order from the site will receive a 75-minute bonus audio CD featuring performances from prior Walnut Creek shows.

I hope so. Phish has made some amazing music. I love the Billy Breathes almost so I like seeing the producer of it (presumably) is on board.

Oh thank you sooo much, I hope it happens. I've been surviving off of Oysterhead and Phish' live at madison square garden cd. Woot And to say phish has no soul is like saying George carlin isn't funny... RIP dude.

hahahahahah ****in right boys, write the best music anyone on earth has ever composed (okay maybe not in all of your opinions, but as my fav band, i can say with ease these 4 guys can demolish almost anyone on stage) and to the ppl saying theres no 'soul' and its the same lick... how about you spend the time to listen to the basic Tweezer from A Live One? 33 minutes of the tightest sh1t ever recorded, and imo ALO is not nearly as good of a release as their others have been damn just listen to ONE show, pre or post hiatus and tell me that Phish sucks... Trey was called the best guitarist alive by fvcking Clapton himself so all the haters should really stfu

Album? Meh... But tour? Please God, let it come to that. I'd drop money on those tickets faster than I'd drop the acid in my eyes when I got there.

I live really close to John Fishman's dad, and my friend (who lives right next door to his dad) said that Fish's dad told his dad Phish are positively getting back together. i know that's a long chain of people, but i love the news.

This all sounds kinda fishy... a jam band getting back together and going directly into the studio? WTF? I love phish, best thing that happend musically since the dead, for me at least, but go on tour B*tchs!!!

dude phish isn't that good, and i say that living in burlington vermont. There are way better bands right now that are way better than old, and new phish. Ninjaface is right, it has no soul, it's trey jerking off on stage for a while. You'll see pretty much the same noodling, and finger patterns from trey and the rest of them just aren't that creative. All those guys have skill, but they're going to reunite for the money, not the music, i can guarantee that.

Listen to Free. It's a little different from most of their songs but it definitely has soul.

That's the best news I've heard in awhile. Trey's guitar work is like no other. YEM still blows my mind every time I hear it.
