Steven Wilson is preparing to release an album of rare early Porcupine Tree material.
The tracks were mainly recorded in the late 1980s, when the band was Wilson's solo project. They were only previously available on cassette tape. When released, the CD will only be on sale via mail order.
While Wilson hasn't revealed any further details as yet, he says one of the early tracks will feature in the set during his upcoming solo world tour in support of new album "The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories)".
It's due out on February 25, with more than half of the 6000 limited-edition deluxe pre-orders already sold.
According to ProgRockMag, Wilson says of the record: "It's still a solo album but it's become a band in its own right, and because of that, it hopefully has more of a sense of cohesion.
"I can look at it and say it's a strong piece of work, possibly my best to date. I always rely on feedback to understand where in my canon the record sits. I hope this one sits very near the top, or even at the top."
The touring band features Guthrie Govan (lead guitar), Adam Holzman (keyboards), Theo Travis (flutes, saxes), Nick Beggs (bass guitar, stick) and Marco Minnemann (drums). Dates will take in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico and South America, with more shows to be added throughout the year.
