In a recent announcement via official Twitter account, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has confirmed that the group has started the writing process and therefore the making of new album, a follow-up to 2012's "Oceania". "Excited to announce today's our 1st official day of writing for new SP album. Wish us luck!" The frontman already spoke about the new album during last year, announcing it as "a cruel record" and expressing hope it will be out by the end of 2013. "I'm starting to write new songs for the next Pumpkins album. I got a lot going on. I have a title for the next album but I won't tell. It's going to be a cruel record. Vengeance is mine," Corgan told MTV Hive. The group is set to embark on a US tour at the beginning of May, and then hit Europe in June after a one month break. The latest Smashing Pumpkins release, "Oceania," was released back in June 2012 via EMI and Martha's Music. With 54,000 copies sold in the US within the first week, it managed to peak at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Oceania was 2012, not 2011. Anyway, I'm f'n stoked for this already, loved Oceania. I'd even say Quasar and The Celestials are already among my SP favorites.

Hey, UG writers, don't fix the article! Now you people are making me look retarded.

Looking foward to this, Oceania was in my top 5 of 2012. Although I really hope Corgan doesn't let his new obsession with the insane Alex Jones affect his music. I don't want to hear my favourite band make an entire album about Libertarianism and Conspiracy theories.

Is it weird that I couldn't get into Oceania? Other people seem to love it...perhaps I don't understand it. I'll keep trying. Loved older pumpkins.

No I'm in the same boat as you are. I liked the song Quasar, but couldn't get into the rest. The rest was just kind of okay to me, but I still like the old stuff quite a bit.

So excited for this, bring on the double album hahah But seriously, I want some more anger and dirtier riffs in this one.

I'm glad he wants to do an angry album again. Sonically, Oceania was a real return to form. Lyrically, it left something to be desired. Constantly droning on about love, lovers, loving got to be exhausting. "Inkless", with its incessant refrain about how "The stars are out tonight..." is just plain irritating. He's still got the chops to play furious classics like "Quiet" and "XYU", and I hope that appears on the new record.

Transphobic? if you have a dick and balls between your legs youre a man. end of story. No amount of mutilating surgeries, or female hormone pills prescribed by quack doctors (who should be thrown in prison) will ever turn these crossdressers into women/she's/females.

I don't really understand it when this argument is brought to the table, Billy was always the mastermind behind the band, he wrote all the songs. Iha, Chamberlin and D'arcy were great indeed, but they moved on.

Smashing Pumpkins is equal to Megadeth in the way that the front man is all you really need to keep the band alive and well.

Years Back... When He Tried To Get His Band Back... He Put Out An Ad in Chicago Paper with An Apology..... Never Said He Wasn't Essence Or That He Sucked.... I Think He Is Brilliant.

Oh, look...another person who doesn't know that Corgan was always the mastermind.

I Did Know... hence the smart ass comment. it's not like I said he sucked or anything... Jesus ... get a grip... the man has made a comment after comment about all these bands from the ninety's getting together making new albums touring and yet he is doing the same thing under an old title. and how many mastermind do you know that put an article in the newspaper for his band to reunite and forgive him because he made a mistake.
    iommi600
But in what way does that relate to the fact that Corgan is the essence of SP? "and how many mastermind do you know that put an article in the newspaper for his band to reunite and forgive him because he made a mistake." lolwut
