Sonic Youth have revealed the details of their new album, "The Eternal". The follow-up to 2006's "Rather Ripped", which was co-produced by the band with John Agnello, will be released on June 9. The band will precede the album with a vinyl split-single with Beck. The record, which is limited to 2,500 copies, is available to buy on April 18. Sonic Youth cover Beck's "Pay No Mind" on the release, while Beck gives Sonic Youth's "Green Light" a reworking. The veterans have recently been keeping fans updated on the album's progress via their Twitter account. One track, "Leaky Lifeboat", is dedicated to beat poet Gregory Corso. "The Eternal"'s tracklisting is as follows: 01. "Sacred Trickster" 02. "Anti-Orgasm" 03. "Leaky Lifeboat (For Gregory Corso)" 04. "Antenna" 05. "What We Know" 06. "Calming the Snake" 07. "Poison Arrow" 08. "Malibu Gas Station" 09. "Thunderclap for Bobby Pyn" 10. "No Way" 11. "Walkin' Blue" 12. "Massage the History" Fans will shortly be able to pre-order the album through Buyearlygetnow.com, allowing them to listen to it in full over the internet as soon as their transaction is complete. Thanks for the report to Nme.com.

Yeah, I get what you mean. Beginning with "Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star," they've been sort of (a singles band is a way?) lacking a real consistency that the albums "EVOL" through "Dirty" had, becoming a slew of sort of unnecessary albums. I'm not saying they're bad albums, just not relevant like their older albums. Maybe they're a band playing past their expiration date, or maybe they're out of really good tricks (or we expect too many tricks), or maybe they're too stubborn to actually listen to other people (which they're notorious for disagreeing and completely ignoring producers' opinions). I don't know, but something's been missing.

I love Rather Ripped too! I like their structured sound a bit more, but Evol is just a top notch record too.

This is gonna be good. SY are one of the few bands who have never done a bad album. Like REM before Up.

Vedicardi : Hopefully it's not crap like the last few
    1. Take your head 2. Get it out of your ass I'm excited. If the shift to an independent label means anything, then hopefully we'll see some more noise/experimenting on The Eternal, since they'll have less pressure to be "accessible" than they did with Geffen. I don't want to wait...

sorry? sonic nurse was quite good, also murray street. now, rather ripped was a more accesible album (due to their former label) but still it wasn't that bad. Now, this album with a new label that does not limit the artists is sure to be awesome!
