System Of A Down Might Record Again

Didi Wagner and Luisa Micheletti of Multishow conducted an interview with System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan after the band's performance at the Rock In Rio festival in on October 2, 2011 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. You can now watch the chat here. Also available is professionally filmed video footage of the Rock In Rio concert, which can be checked out here. When asked if System Of A Down fans expect to hear a new studio album from the band following the group's reunion tour, Dolmayan said, "We're gonna take it day by day. We still have a few more shows to do in South America we're playing in Buenos Aires and we're playing Santiago, so we're looking forward to that. And then we're gonna home. We don't generally work during Christmas and New Year's that's a time for our family and stuff so we'll be home for the next three or four months. And then Serj [Tankian, vocals] takes off and goes to New Zealand for a couple of months he lives part time in New Zealand. And then I think he's got another solo album coming out next summer. So you might see System touring next summer, you might not. But for the people who are waiting for an album I know there's a lot of people waiting for an album; I'm waiting for an album just like they are. It's gonna happen when it's right and when we can make something that tops what we've done in the past. Because we don't really wanna rest on our laurels where what you've done in the past is what you depend on. Well, I don't wanna do that, and I know the rest of the guys don't wanna do that. Instead of resting on our laurels, we wanna throw them away and create something new and specific for this generation that they can say that's their System Of A Down." Dolmayan previously told Straight.com about System Of A Down's five-year hiatus, "I personally don't like breaks I like to continue playing. But it was nice to go off and be John Dolmayan, as opposed to John from System, for a while. I think everybody had similar feelings." The drummer explained that a desire to pull off the road for a while and reconnect with their lives is what led System to take an extended vacation from each other, saying, "When you're on the road and in the studio all the time, it's kind of like traveling at light speed. When you come back, it's like 20 years have passed by, and you're only one or two hours older . . . You're living a nomadic life, and you lose touch with people because they have grown away from you. People get older, get married, die life is still going on." Dolmayan admitted that he was lobbying to end the hiatus for the last three years, saying, "There's no real personality in the band that can be pushed to do anything that they don't want to. We are four very strong individuals." But Dolmayan also said that the occasional clash of those four strong personalities led to the break as well, explaining, "We all have our idiosyncrasies and things that irritate the shit out of each other. Some of [singer] Serj's [Tankian] stuff irritates me, and I'm sure some of my stuff irritates the shit out of him. That's natural. You're in a relationship when you're in a band . . . But look at us we've been together longer than most marriages last." "And a band is a marriage," Dolmayan continued, "except that you don't have one headache, you have three to four headaches, and, on top of that, everyone having other people that influence each member. It's almost like a congress, there are so many people involved. Ultimately, though, we make the decisions because we are the band. Our relationships are all intact, and we always have a great time together. The other day, it took us 20 minutes to start a rehearsal because we were all too busy laughing. I don't even remember what was so funny, but that's a sign that we don't take things too seriously. We like to just get up there and play." System's last two albums, "Mezmerize" and "Hypnotize", were released in 2005. Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

so I had to find this great news by scrolling down on UGs music news. It would be more reasonable to highlight this one instead of the "Gene Simmons Finally Marries Shannon Tweed" which are not entirely music related. I could care less of what gene simmons do outside of music (even drugs)

It would be awesome if they make a new album. It's been six years since they released their last two and about time they make one (whenever they're ready).

"we wanna throw them away and create something new and specific for this generation that they can say that's their System Of A Down." This..... this is how one properly crushes another's hope and excitement.

Hopefully it is better then those last two awful albums. Hopefully daron plays guitar and does back up like the first two albums. Man, these guys fell off fast but hopefully they still have that anger and rage that made them famous.

Fuck yes! I'm sooooo ready for a new SOAD album. I just know it's gonna be good

I am glad to hear there could be a new Album coming soon, my girlfriend surprised me at the beginning of the year by scooping some tix to go see System and it was a freaking AWESOME show. Really happy to see they would rather wait till they have primo material for a new album then putting out crap and expecting people to buy it just cause S.O.A.D is involved...wish some other bands would think this way...loutallica...

Fucking love John. I'm a drummer myself and I'd rank his heavy-hitting style up there with the likes of Dave Grohl. Really excited at the possibility of a new album. Hopefully it'll be more Serj-driven than Daron-driven, because as much as I love Daron as a guitarist, Serj beats the shit out of him when it comes to vocals and songwriting.

True, but I think Daron could sing on a few of the song or during parts of the songs (like he did in the past, but not as much as the last two) to contrast Serj's voice.

great news. Hope Daron would just sing backing. Does seem like they ran out of money and are riding on the old band comeback wagon

Tell that to Rage Against The Machine

I doubt that's gonna happen; they said they don't wanna try to recreate the past. I don't wanna hear Toxicity B-sides anyway. I want NEW shit.

Why not? You don't have to listen to it. On an un-troll related note, I'm a bit excited for this. Even though it's nothing that's gunna happen in a day or two. John's a cool drummer, always been my favorite member. Talented, level-headed dude.

They're in a very different place now. Just take it as it comes.
My roots with the band go a little deeper than that, but I'm not looking for that. I want something new as much as anyone else, but I want something good! I want system of a down! Not this bullsh*t they've been releasing under the system of a down name. Like someone else said, I miss their intensity, this band was CRAZY back in the day, just everything about them, their music, their look, their interview style, and their stage show..... every performance brought a smile to my face. They've lost what made them special. And these solo cd's and that line john said gives me no hope they'll be getting that back.

I doubt they do for a while. Even though they've just done touring, they probably won't want to do any new material for a while.

You do realize that Daron has written almost all of their songs, right? He would start writing something, show it to the rest of the guys and they would throw some more ideas into that.

I doubt anyone will ever read this, but what about updating the Scars on Broadway news section and tell the people about the new 40 something second clip they put up of their new song "Guns are Loaded" and that they're coming out with a brand new album this summer! Believe me, this news would be greatly appreciated by my fellow fans of Scars On Broadway and Daron Malakian. The ones who have been living in a cave and aren't aware of this great news.

Listening to Steal This Album as we speak. Doesn't get nearly enough credit as a solid SOAD album

If there is a new album or if there is a 2013? I mean, the world IS supposed to end in 2012; hopefully they'll get it out in time.

you can do it! another SOAD album will be good. Of course all the SOAD fanboys will say how its not as good as *album* and it could have used more of the sound of *pervious album* and how they should just die.

If that was the case, we'd have another RATM album too. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a new SOAD album, but this is just misleading.
Blabbermouth is the king when it comes to "misleading". look at what they did to Portnoy's reputation. anyway, i hope these guys get back together. their songs are awesome (like their self-titled album songs) and they were ****ing awesome and hilarious live.

Alright come on System, make a good album like your self titled, Toxicity, and Steal this Album. Hypnotize and Mezmerize were ok, but they were lacking the awesomeness of the first three albums. I know I'm being too optimistic, but I haven't seen or heard anything new by System of a Down since my high school days so I'll be optimistic all I want lol.

They were great but the mixing for the live stream sucked. The guitar sounded too loud imo. But yeah, the world needs SOAD and a new album would fit so well. So much has happened since the last album

Maybe more like their first album and less of this boring anti-political bullshit the last few albums had.

This would be nuts, probably a completely different sound after all their different solo endeavors... IM EXCITED!

It's not misleading you're all idiots he said they will in the future, not now, but after everybody's not busy.

Ill be lookinh forward to that. System is one of the best modern bands around these days. Can't say that for alot of the garbage that's clamoring thru the airwaves with the same recycled crap.

I hope that they do make a new album or atleast do some more concerts!!! I love SOAD, got me through seventh grade lol
