The Offspring have been in the studio for a while, working on their 9th studio album with producer Bob Rock. Frontman Dexter Holland issued the following update on the message board of the band's website: "Working with Bob Rock has been the best experience that we have had in the studio. Bob is obviously a great producer, but beyond that Bob and we get along and sort of see the record making process similarly..the songs sometimes take a little longer to finish but the end result is far better for taking the time and is something we're very proud of. "Right now we're working on a new batch of songs..they're all in different stages, some are just started and some are nearly finished. The only song title I have right now is one called 'It's All Good'..will it make the record? Who knows! We are going in the studio today, everyday for the next two weeks..we're going to try to get something new finished and ready to play live on tour this summer..we'll keep you posted!" The new album will be the follow up to 2008's "Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace". No word on title or release date, but fans can anticipate the album to be released sometime this year. This summer, The Offspring (along with 311) will be kicking off an 18 date run of US amphitheaters this summer in this year's 2010 Unity Tour. Check out dates and locations here. Thanks for the report to DyingScene.com.

Original Prankster vs. Kristy Are You Doing Okay? I'm not sure what to say to this because you obviously can see, so perhaps you just haven't seen those videos. But your comment leads me to believe you cannot hear correctly.

I love The Offspring, and can't wait for the new album. I myself think that every album they've had has been good, but that's just me. As for the whole punk deal. Idiots need to realize that the idea of punk rock is to do what you want to do and to have free-thought, not caring what everyone else thinks. It is not conforming to the idea that you have to be what everyone thinks punk is! People have the same problem with Green Day, and they just need to get over it. Sorry for the rant, but had to get it out.

hahahha are you kidding me? Dexter makes ridiculous complex melodys, especially considering back in the day when he played guitar and sang at the same time live.

I like The Offspring. They craft catchy music, and put on an entertaining live show.

Yeah because they're so worried about being punk anymore, especially when punk is ****ing dead.

Ok well firstly you only quoted part of what i said, i believe that's what they call taking it out of context. Secondly, i don't know what you call complex vocal melodies, but i've listened to their early stuff...that's really not complex aha. Its just not.

They are just such a mediocre band in general haha.
Everyone i know, including metalheads, mainstream people, hardcore drum and bass fans, all know the words to an Offspring song. I don't think they're amazing musicians or a credible [unk band. They just have fun catchy songs which you can put on at a party and the summer. Same goes for Sum 41 and Blink 182.

I personally enjoy Dream Theater, and The Offspring equally.
What the hell is wrong with you? Dream Theater fans close-minded? Sure there's lots of people who obsess over that band (they're somewhat overrepresented on this site, heheh) to the point where it becomes annoying because they mention them in every discussion... But if you look at their music they're actually a pretty diverse band: I've heard them cover Yes, Maiden, Pink Floyd, Pantera and Elton John, and believe me: most of their fans can appreciate that music too So really, even though the Offspring have changed their sound pretty dramatically over the past 10 years you can't say they've incorporated nearly as many genres into their songs as DT (unless you count "Why Don't You Get a Job" as calypso, "Self Esteem" as grunge since it kinda sounds like "Teen Spirit", the hidden mariachi track on "Americana"... )

I liked the Offspring, ... until I saw them live last year, they plainly sucked. I don't have high hopes for this album

Oh come on, their sound has not changed a bit! Its all to do with the simple vocal melodies, power chords and double time drumming. Pretty much every one of their songs has that formula. Its a bit simple for my taste personaly, I like more musicianship. But still each to their own.

I used to love Offspring, but their last 2 albums where horrible. The last good album in my opinion is Conspiracy of one. Their best album for me would have to be a cross between Ixnay and Ignition.

I personally loved RAFRAG, a kind of grown-up punk album if you like. I would agree that they are probably past their best, but any album these guys release is sure to feature a fair share of killer tracks, I'm looking forward to it.

Disagree, their sound has changed, that's why I don't like them as much now. I don't mind if they do the same stuff as long as it's quality. Still, looking forward to this album in hopes there'll be at least one great track.

Rise and Fall was a ridiculously amazing album. The Offspring are still the greatest band around. In all honesty, their sound hasn't really changed that much. They're still putting out quality music and I'm counting the days until this new album is out. Best news I've heard in weeks. Thanks so much for all the great years Dexter, Noodles and Greg! (Pete now too) Haha.

Their last two albums haven't been bad, they've just been meh. I heard they were going to update some of their earlier unreleased songs for this album. I'd be willing to hear some of that.

sweet! we dont have to wait 5 years for this one! still one of my favorite bands around.

Punk music: the genre that forces you to look like you're thinking independently by adhering to a rigid formula. I loved their last album, I don't care if it doesn't adhere to the dead and gone punk ethic.

Rise and fall had a good mixture of classic and newer Offspring sounds. My favourite album is still Smash, but rise and Conspiracy were far better than Americana and Splinter. I hope to hear more good things.

Rise & Fall was fairly mediocre and I don't see this new one being much better, especially with Bob Rock at the helm.
