Trent Reznor is working on a TV mini-series named Year Zero for HBO, based on Nine Inch Nails' 2007 album of the same name.

Pulp Fiction producer Lawrence Bender is on board with the project, as is Roswell executive producer Kevin Kelly Brown and writer Daniel Knauf.

They are working with the BBC Worldwide Productions studio, reports the LA Times.

"We are in pre-production with HBO and BBC to do a mini-series," Reznor confirmed.

"It's exciting I understand that there's a thousand hurdles before anything shows up in your TV listing."

He added: "It's been an interesting and very educational process and it cleared the HBO hurdle a few months ago and now we're writing drafts back and forth. So it's very much alive and incubating at the moment."

Thanks for the report to Nme.com.

I don't know if I'm excited for this or not. I love NIN to death, and I loved the concept of Year Zero, but I just cannot stand the music of that album. No matter how hard I try, it just sounds awful to me, it's the one album (besides Pretty Hate Machine) that taints NIN's discography. Hopefully the show will be about the concept and not the music, but I doubt that.

Personally I like the album. I'm quite fond of Pretty Hate Machine, too. You have to be aware of the fact that PHM was recorded over 21 years ago - the synths and odd samples becoming so much more in a live context over the years, which I think is testament to Reznor's writing.

I listened to it once or twice but never picked up on the concept. Must be good to start a mini series
