Swedish pop icons ABBA have announced plans for marking the 40th anniversary of their Eurovision triumph with "Waterloo" hit single, hinting at a possible 2014 reunion. As Sky News reports, singer Agnetha Faltskog told German weekly Welt am Sonntag that the band is definitely thinking about the major event anniversary. "There seem to be plans to do something to mark this anniversary in some way," she said. "But I can't say at this point what will come of them." The 63-year-old vocalist also admitted that hitting the stage had become increasingly difficult with age, noting that the ABBA crew is "getting older. I can't imagine going onto the stage on walking sticks," she added. Faltskog wasn't much in the mood for pondering whether the band will reform, saying, "That eats up too much energy. Don't just think about it, just do it." Back in October 2012, the band's songwriter and guitarist Bjorn Ulvaeus ruled out any chance whatsoever for ABBA to reunite. "We are the only group of that status that has never been reunited. I think that is cool," the 68-year-old said. "It is a strength for ABBA that you remember those young, ambitious, energetic people during the '70s rather than some feeble old folks who feel compelled to get up and play all the time." Formed in Stockholm in 1972, ABBA reigned global charts for a decade, releasing eight studio albums featuring such hits as "Dancing Queen," "Money Money," "Mamma Mia," "The Winner Takes It All" and more prior to disbanding in 1982.

WTF?? Since when UG community likes pop... You are the firsts to say "Bieber is shit" but you like ABBA? Is That Real??? I can't believe it...

"Pop" is a pretty vague term, and if we're talking about everything that gets labeled as "pop music", we're certainly not talking of a homogeneous music genre. So, it isn't odd that someone likes ABBA and dislikes Bieber. That being said... **** liking different kinds of music, right?

pop≠pop. Today's shit where everything is the same autotuned crap and the attitude is "hoes and bitches" sucks in comparison to some finer pop. That doesn't mean you can't find any good actual pop. Me for example I like listening to some folk influenced singer/songwriter pop. However in the seventies pop was more rock oriented and most stuff was handmade. Today every producer kicks some 4/4 beat into a drum machine, puts 4 chords over it, creates some random easy rhythm, picks a kid from the street, that looks quite decent and puts some autotune over a crappy text. Whom exaggerations show, shall keep them low.

Yes. It is real. ABBA existed before Auto-Tune, overproduction, and the trappings of current pop media. They wrote good songs (without huge teams of outside writers and producers), hand played their own instruments, and crossed genre lines at every turn. I'd say that's pretty real.

They had talent yeah they were "Pop" but thats a vague term, being that that era of "Pop" had extremely skilled musicians and now we just have Justin Bieber and I don't care if I spelled his name right. "We just write pop hits"- Paul McCartney 1965 responding to a reporter who said the Beatles were talented musicians

I love metal and prog rock, but back when I was 5 or 6 these guys were always on in the car. Would love to see this happen. Guys knew how to write good songs.

I certainly hope they don't. it would be an epic fail. People want to remember them as they were. If they came out and reunited, I would suggest that they did it with a new album AND a new mature direction. Leave the old song to our memories

Love metal, rock, blues etc... but there's nothing wrong with a bit of ABBA, to be honest their music isn't badly written like today's chart music!

And just below this article... "Top 10 Worst Band Reunions"... I sense a bad omen. Nah but I hope this turns out well for the fans, nothing worse than a group coming back after years and being a mere shadow of their former self, leaving the fans with a bad taste in their mouth instead of fond memories. These guys wrote some catchy stuff and pretty much every hotel in Spain had some sort of tribute act perform one night or another.

I actually think it'd be cool to see them do a reunion show. I definitely wouldn't expect a tour. Hell, even just a show would still be pretty farfetched going by what I've seen in interviews, but it'd be cool nonetheless.

At no point in this article does anyone consider a reunion. In fact, only arguments against it. It only says there are plans to mark the anniversary in some way. Which probably means another "ABBA - Waterloo Special 40th year edition - The very best of" album.

Not gonna lie... "Dancing Queen" gets me up every time. That song can probably take me out of a coma. I've never listened to anything by them other than their hits, though.

They ARE in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. which makes no sense whatsoever.

They chose ABBA and Madonna over Dio and Def Leppard, so i agree with you. ABBa and Madonna aren't even rock n roll. Dio and Def Leppard is, but that's messed up. Choosing ABBA and Madonna over Dio and Def Leppard.

They may not have ALWAYS rocked, but this is definitely much more 'rock' than not.

The fact that Leppard isn't in there is absolutely ludicrous. Hysteria is one of the most successful rock albums of all time!

Not saying I hate them, I just REALLY don't like 'em. Granted, they're like the Bee Gees: when a song of theirs comes on the radio and you're by yourself you might end up humming along because a lot of their stuff is usually damn catchy. Also, if you're able to suppress that immediate urge to change the station you will eventually notice how well their stuff is produced... But that's because they hired the best technicians and session musicians. I know this news will make a lot of moms very happy but let's not pretend this is one of those musical acts that has no boundaries and is universally respected and/or liked (like, say, The Beatles or Michael Jackson). So don't be fooled: if these reunion plans have gotten you so excited you can't help but sing 'Fernando' out loud on the school yard, there's a good chance you'll get your ass kicked

Are you joking? ABBA consistently made great music, they are definitely up there in terms of deserving universal respect. I'd wager most people would probably recognise at least 5 ABBA songs immediately if they were played. I'm not even an ABBA fan and I can easily list 5+ myself off the top of my head. (Money, money money; The Winner Takes It All; Knowing Me knowing you; Waterloo; Take a chance on me; Dancing Queen; Mamma Mia). If I saw a kid getting his ass kicked for singing Fernando, I would happily go to his aid.

And the BeeGees kicked ass too!

Singing disco tunes in said setting will also help you get your ass kicked. And I love me some Jamiroquai and Nile Rodgers
    Manticore28
You realize that they were an incredible, original-sounding baroque pop band way before they switched to disco. They have over 5 albums with this incredible sound.
    wasamuel
but if they were singing justin bieber, you'd let them get their arse kicked. YOUR A NICE PERSON lol
    skynyrd
Honestly I think you'd be better off going to see Mamma Mia on Broadway.

With as many albums as they sold, I remember seeing some interview with this guy saying that he really didn't have very much money.
