Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger says he doesn't care about the reaction to his engagement to emo-princess Avril Lavigne.
The pair had announced their engagement out of the blue in August, having spent six months together after Kroeger was recruited to write for her new album.
"I try not to take too much interest in the world's opinion of our relationship. I just know the both of us are very happy," he told People magazine (via NME).
It turns out the Canadian musicians started dating on Canada Day, July 1. "We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day," he said. "We can't wait to start our life together."
Lavigne previously said she was swooned by his sense of humor: "He makes me laugh every day. He takes care of me in every way and is extremely attentive."
With an engagement ring worth $350,000, it's no surprise that they could afford to celebrate their engagement with a party in Las Vegas.
Lavigne had been married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley in 2006, but they split three years later.
