A new batch of Download 2014 performers was recently announced, confirming Dillinger Escape Plan, Volbeat, Suicide Silence and reunited djent forefathers SikTh among the festival's fresh bands. As the official release reads, Buckcherry, Memphis May Fire, Battlecross, Jake E. Lee's Red Dragon Cartel, Arcane Roots, Thy Art Is Murder, The Amity Affliction, Avatar, Lonely the Brave and Feed the Rhino have also confirmed their performances. Download 2014 will be headlined by Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Aerosmith. Rob Zombie, Fall Out Boy and Alter Bridg were announced as the headliners' respective main supports. "We've always said that one day we would get SikTh back together and do another show and next year just feels like the right time to stop the talking and do it," said guitarist Dan Weller. "To be honest we really miss playing those songs. Our fans have been so loyal so it's time to give them something back. We played Download in 2003 and 2006 so it seemed the obvious place for us to make a return." The festival is scheduled to take place from June 13 to 15 at Donington Park. I, personally, think the main eventers are shite and the magic lies in the pudding beneath. Still, I think Linking Park playing Hybrid Theory are at least scratching a nostalgic itch, but still... Not really hot about A7X and Aerosmith.
I dont understand why FOB are there. Their earlier music was more rock, but Save Rock and Roll was more pop than rock. And yeah, download 2014 seemed rubbish, before this article though. Main events aren't that great imo. Download 2013 was sick (annoyed I didnt go)
Linkin Park perfomroming Hybrid Theory!! Hell yeah!!!
Im sure Im going to get a lot of hate for this but why is Linkin Park there, when they are only playing their debut album? Isn't the rest of their stuff good? Imo it seems like they've gone downhill ever since after seeing that they're only playing from Hybird Thoery. Just an opinion
I would only go for dillenger and sikth (****ing sikth, who saw that coming?!?!?!). It's pretty terrible for one of the biggest metal festivals.
So many people have been telling me that Download is actually a rock festival. After this year's festival, and previous ones, I always thought it was a metal festival... meh
Exactly, you can't have Tool, Metallica, Slayer, Rammstein, Megadeth, Maiden and more play over the years then don't expect the fans to backlash when there isn't enough metal to suffice. Andy could have had almost any band he wanted after this years reception but each to their own I guess. If he wants newer bands to get their say at the top then I'm going to Sonisphere!
    link no1
I don't understand how a few of the bands in 'big print' (I.E their logo is shown rather than their name in default print) are advertised as a 'main act' among 1 or 2 in the section that looks like 'and the smaller acts'. I love the Offspring but I've not really heard anything of them by 'fans' for a long time, I thought they would have been a lot less relevant to advertise than say, Trivium, who I hear a lot about via 'word of mouth'. And Fall Out Boy? Yet again, another band I have a fondness for but their latest album doesn't really 'fit' with download, it is waaaay too 'poppy' for even the 'lightest' band there and they will likely play the hell out of that album. Other than that, the lineup doesn't really impress me at all. It seems to be bands that are at quite a lot of the same festivals all the time (Trivium, In Flames), Bands that are at other similar festivals this year (A7X, Status Quo) or a few terrible new bands and 'verb the noun' bands.
    Download has really gone down-hill.
After these new additions, I'm not so sure, but it certainly isn't as good as last year. The headliners and supporting acts are meh imo. I wouldn't say it's gone downhill completely.
It just got better!! Thy Art Is Murder, Battlecross, Suicide Silence (even though it's with Eddie - hope he does well) it's got heavier!! I wanna go now...
I've seen The Offspring a couple of years ago, they are still relevant. Their latest CD wasn't as good as the other ones but their live shows are still awesome.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, go see The Dillinger Escape Plan. You won't regret it.
