Fatboy Slim to Simon Cowell Over Reality DJ Show: 'F--k Off'

New show is a "terrible idea," says Cook.

Fatboy Slim has revealed he and other top DJ's have been approached by Simon Cowell to star in a new reality show named "Ultimate DJ" - but told him to "f--k off."

As Gigwise reports, the DJ, real name Norman Cook, was in conversation with Digital Spy at Electrobeach Festival in France last weekend.

"Simon Cowell was talking about doing a show and everyone in the business," said Cook. "He kind of started approaching us."

However, the Cook expressed the the revolt toward the prospect: "He kind of started approaching us, and we were like, 'F--k off. No - that's a terrible idea!"

He continued: "That's the good thing about dance music; it grows organically through drunk people late at night coming up with stupid ideas. It's not something that can be scripted or transported into a TV studio."

Elaborating on why he is opposed Cook adds: "I get offered loads of TV shows and they're like, 'Can you perform for five minutes?' But DJ-ing takes two hours and an audience. It's not like you can go out there and sing your latest song. Because of that, it will always remain slightly outside the mainstream. At the end of the day, it's about taking a big bunch of high people and trying to get them higher, which you can't do on TV."

Meanwhile, Fatboy Slim plays Creamfileds on August 24 alonside Ian Brown, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers and Roots Manuva.

Good on him, Cowell is a knob who isn't worth anyone's time.
Agreed but you can't deny he knows how to do business - he makes money out of his audition process (x factor) only for the winner to make him even more money! W*nker.
Except for the fact that he's a massive figure in the music industry and none of us would decline if he offered us the career he's given One Direction, for example.
    i couldnt decline fast enough
All of you idiots would definitely be singing a different tune if you were offered the contract... and I know we all need the money because we have nothing better to do than comment here
I'd rather earn my money in a non-musical career and make music that I love for free than take Cowell's money and be forced to make whatever music he thinks will sell. Of course, with my ugly mug, it's not as if Cowell would want me to participate. Let's not pretend that Cowell's various projects have anything to do with music - it's all about putting a marketable face with marketable noise.
This is the first fatboy slim news in over 10 years, we need to hear more about him UG
uck...really? This dewd is a tool and full of himself. "I get offered loads of TV shows..." Yes, this is why your doing nothing then eh?
He makes more money in one year doing a handful of gigs than you will ever make in your life. Sounds like you're just jealous... Fatboy Slim was big when Celine Dion was still at the top of the Billboard charts with "My Heart Will Go On." When Justin Timberlake was still in NSYNC. When Dawson's Creek was still going strong and Cowboy Bebop was just airing. Just cause you were born in 1999 right when he was popular doesn't mean you should disrespect a legend. But, then again, this is UG and thanks to the current toxic community comprised of 15 year-olds like you, this website is now less about guitar and more about vocalizing ignorant opinions.
"You have technicians here, making noise. No one is a musician. They're not artists because nobody can play the guitar." some guy on Skrillex, 2010.
There's a video of some Dj's going out and performing in the streets of new york(I believe), no idea what its called but that is the origin of that statement. skrillex sampled that video. The guy also states that he listens to jazz radio.
"...dance music; it grows organically through drunk people late at night coming up with stupid ideas" Couldn't have said it better myself. LOL. What a time we live in: a DJ schooling a television producer about "musical integrity".
    Fatboy Slim is tha man
was the man. it would be good if he brought out a new album. not a dj set. but someghing good and creative like he did in the nineties
Good for Cowell. He is a bellend and has been pissing people off for ages
You just reminded me, where the **** is Danny aka Bellend Guy?
The bill for Creamfields at the end of the article sounds like a damned good gig
It does, but I can't see any of the other artists on the Creamfields lineup. Think they might have got the wrong year -_-
Good to know. Fatboy Slim is terrible, and Cowell is a ****. I can't stand the idea of a collaboration between them. This actually made my morning a lot better, thank you UG.
I like Cowell... He's a business-man, not an artist. So don't judge him as such. He's clearly intelligent, knows what people want, and knows how to sell his "brand". I don't watch his shows, but I really don't think he cares..
I know that the junkies down the street wants some heroin and crack, but since I have integrity I'm not selling that shlt to them. I could also start selling smack to ten-year olds like Simon Cowell selling his child-pornography-ish talentshows. Fvck Cowell. I hope he rots in hell for ruining music even more
I don't much like the artists that come out of Simon Cowell. But I think comparing them to getting children addicted to a terrible drug like heroin might be a little extreme.
It's sort of odd to say this: But DJ-ing takes two hours and an audience. It's not like you can go out there and sing your latest song. Because of that, it will always remain slightly outside the mainstream. ...when you've released studio albums. Especially studio albums that garnered a lot of mainstream attention.
I am very pleased over this. Simon Cowell has been making bands and singers look lame for over a decade now allowing the DJs who stay out of the Reality Stage to become cool. Now hopefully they will become lame
