Announced as possibly a major game changer, "The Birdcage" project will see some of the prominent musicians of today's rock scene joining forces for an interesting fusion of music and video games.

The developers insist that music will "not be a soundtrack for the game, and the game will not be a casual click around game. The two will be a truly integrated product."

AsĀ Metal Hammer reports, the plot revolves around the "Beauty and the Beast" fairytale and will be available on Android, iOS and PC. The project's impressive musician roster includes the likes of Guns N' Roses axeman Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, Within Temptation's Ruud Jolie, Rocky Grey of Evanescence, Derek Sherinian of Dream Theater, Alice Cooper and Yngwie Malmsteen fame and more.

"The music industry is dying," said producer Arnold Nesis. "And record stores are empty and closing. But another industry, the video games industry, is growing fast. So, we're looking to create an album which is a video game and to use the existing video game distribution platforms."

Nesis continued, "The game is driven by music, enhancing your experience and creating a greater engagement with the plot, which we hope will lead to a whole new level of interactive listening. We really do believe this might be the future for the music industry."

The Indiegogo campaign is aiming to raise $190,000 with 36 days left. More details and contributing info here.

Can you honestly say this looks even remotely as good as Brutal Legend was?

I was more or less commenting on how it's kind of been done already. While it won't come close to Brutal Legend, I can't help but get the vibe from this article that they think they are "doing something new and innovative."

The imaginary game changing project this article describes and the poorly designed and rendered video's shown below it are clearly not on the same level...
