KISS Feud Lands Band Their First Rolling Stone Cover

For the first time ever (strange, right?), see the band on the world famous RS mag cover.

The ongoing feud between original KISS members as they approach their induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame has landed the band on the cover of Rolling Stone for the first time in their 40 year history, Hennemusic reports.

A classic 1975 photo of the original KISS lineup leads fans to a cover story on the group, who hold nothing back about the animosity that will keep them from performing at the induction ceremony in their New York hometown on April 10.

Rolling Stone reports Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons offered to allow founding members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss to jam with KISS' current lineup, featuring guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer, but the pair found that proposition deeply insulting.

"I won't be disrespected," Criss says. "How can you put me in the Hall of Fame and then tell me to go sit over there in the corner while another guy puts on my makeup and plays? That's an injustice. To the fans, too."

Still bitter over incidents of drug and alcohol abuse that are decades-old, Simmons and Stanley can't find a way to put the past aside for a three-song performance as a sign of respect to their history, legacy, and for the fans who supported them from the early days.

Simmons says that Frehley and Criss "no longer deserve to wear the paint."

"The makeup is earned," he adds. "Just being there at the beginning is not enough ... And if you blow it for yourself, it's your fault. You can't blame your band members. 'Oh, look what happened to me. Oh, poor me.' Look at my little violin. I have no sympathy."

Frehley suggests another reason for the current members' reluctance: "The reason they don’t want to perform with me and Peter is because the last time they did, they had to do a reunion tour. We play three songs, the fans go crazy. They don't want to open up a can of worms."

Frehley, meanwhile, says he licensed – rather than sold the rights to his Spaceman makeup to the band, and suggests that he's due to get the rights back sometime soon, while Simmons says he’s only likely to do another two or three tours before packing it in.

On April 10, the original lineup of KISS will be inducted into the Rock Hall along with Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt; the ceremony will be held at New York's Barclays Center and HBO will record the event for broadcast in May.

It's to bad that Nirvana's and Peter Gabriel's induction go pretty much unnoticed because of Kiss' ego wars.
I guess it is news when a meaningless band makes the cover of a meaningless magazine.
Yeah. Rolling Stone is pretty much a liberal activism magazine at this point. They suck for all things music.
True, that. It's like, we already know why the original lineup of Kiss no longer performs together, we already know of the issues between them, and there's no need to re-hash them just because they aren't playing together at the Rock hall. We get it, you bellends, now let's shut the Fuck up about it and talk about how great Nirvana and Peter Gabriel are.
eh screw kiss. This is decades old news. I'd put Chad Channing on the cover because I think it's ridiculous to induct Nirvana and not let in the ORIGINAL DRUMMER. That's the bigger news out of the the whole sham that is the 2014 Hall of Fame.
He wasn't the original drummer. He was like, their fourth drummer. Nirvana went through quite a lot of drummers before finding Dave Grohl, Chad Channing being just one of them, although he was lucky enough to play on the first album and so he still deserves credit.
ah didn't know that. My knowledge of them goes back to the first album. I'd still think he should have went in since he recorded that album with them.
In fairness, if you're in a band where two of the members are abusing drugs and alcohol - which this article dismisses as no big deal - and it's affecting the band as a whole, then they've either got to drop the habit or be kicked out. See Paul Di'Anno vs Iron Maiden, for instance.
It was also Paul's attitude with Maiden, he sometimes simply didn't "feel" like touring because he was just like that, and altough it was a very "metal" attitude it affected the band that wanted to progress.
Every time Gene opens his mouth I like him and KISS a bit less. I'm standing behind every band that kicks out members because they're high on drugs to a point where they aren't capable of playing. But that doesn't erase the effort on the albums, and in no way justifies another "KISS ego trip"
    ace man
Don't ask me where I read it, but some interview with Gene a few years ago suggested they were considering removing ace and peter's parts from alive and rerecording with the current guys. now that's disrespectful.
here's an idea.... the original four without the make up. just four guys up there playing their music.
Well im sorry, but Ace kicks ass. Rest of the band is alright, but he made me a fan. Stopped caring about Gene and the like long ago. They shouldn't perform at all.
Ace kicks ass, holy shit, I know student guitar players that play better than Ace. He's got to be one of worst guitar players on the planet!
The best Ace fans don't say that he's a great guitar player. Even Ace says it. But no one can deny the fact that he caused more people to pick up a guitar second to perhaps the Beatles.
Cool. Exactly what are they doing? Transcribe some of his licks, dude is legitimate. I never stated he was a rock god, but out of the four...
The last three Rolling Stone covers have been: Justin Bieber, Skrillex, and KISS. I'm wondering if that could be the worst three covers in a row in the history of Rolling Stone? It has to be close.
Rolling Stone doesn't mean poop. If you sift past the product adds and mindless photos, there are about 9 paragraphs of "journalism".
The fact that so many people even like this shit band makes me worry for humanity.
Or you could accept that everyone can like whatever they want. You aren't the center of the universe. Learn to respect others opinions.
so to be on the prestigious cover of the rolling stones, you have to act like bickering little children...explains a lot now...don't know how i didn't see it before.
Had to read your comment twice, before i noticed you used italics thereby showing your obvious sarcasm as to the prestigiousness of rolling stone! Thank you it made my morning!
All 4 members have egos the size of Jupiter. It's a shame that they can't settle their differences for just 3 songs and have their fans have one last moment in happiness.
That's actually not true. From what I've seen and heard from Ace and Peter, they're actually really cool guys.
Then you haven't read Peter's book
I met Peter and he was most gracious. My 7 year old son is a drummer and he took time to discuss brands of drum heads with him and gave him nothing but genuine encouragement. Peter was a class act (that day).
They're not in the band anymore though, so i'd say his comment stands
Lame as usual. Boy this band really took a header back in the late 70's.
Ooo boy! They are on the cover of Rolling Stone! Big deal. Beavis and Butthead were on the cover years ago. Not like it's prestigious or anything.
Gene and Paul did NOT carry the KISS Brand forward..The Kiss Brand carried them!!! The Brand was equally built by the original 4. Gene and Paul whine about how they had to work to keep KISS going when it was KISS that actually kept them going and paying their Bills. That does not give them any more claim to the Brand then Ace and Peter. In fact the only way KISS could kick hind ends these days is if Ace and Peter played with them as they are still Men.. Gene and Paul are Clucking Old Hens...
