Metal gods Metallica have demonstrated their down-to-earth spirit once again, appearing in a hilarious ESPN advertisement for "Sportscenter."

The ad features the band struggling to put their talents to good use following the retirement of former New York Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera, the legendary player who used "Enter Sandman" as entrance music throughout almost his entire career.

"Sometimes it can be quite freeing to put yourself at the mercy of others," drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone. "ESPN's commercials have a tendency to be hilarious. We were like, 'That sounds like a good time.' The whole thing had an overriding impulsivity to it."

As noted in the description, the "guitar lessons" part with Kirk Hammett is pure gold, and that's not just our opinion, but Lars' as well. "When [anchor Stuart Scott] takes the tab off Kirk's 'guitar lessons' flier and uses it as his gum wrapper, that's just classic," he said. "The whole thing is really funny. Man, let's do another 20 of these. It's really fun."

More than 30 years and they're still havin' fun with this kind of things.

If any golfer uses 'Battery' as their intro song, I might watch and cheer for that golfer.

Love it. Metallica knows how to not take themselves incredibly serious and the This Is SportsCenter commercials are pretty much always funny.
