New A7X Game Allows Gamers to Play as Late Drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan

M. Shadows has revealed that all the Avenged Sevenfold band members will be playable characters in the game.

As Metal Injection notes, Avenged Sevenfold has revealed that they are releasing a video game. Titled "Hail to the King: Deathbat," the game appears to be a "Diablo III"-type RPG. In an interview with Revolver, Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows has revealed that all the Avenged Sevenfold band members will be playable characters in the game, including late drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan

"Well, for instance, Arin [Ilejay, drums] really wanted a blade in each hand with a boomerang effect so that they would come back to him. We couldn't do that, so we compromised and gave him a double-sided sword. Zacky [Vengeance, guitar] wanted a baseball bat - he throws rocks at people, and mashes them with a bat. Synyster Gates [guitar] has a little demon that runs around with him - and when you use his magic powers, you hear one of his dive-bombs, which he recorded specially for it. Johnny [Christ, bass] has the 'Hell Sword,' which rains blood on people, and I have 'Shadows Sight,' which is like a black plume of smoke that you inhale in your lungs. We all did stupid voiceovers for it when we were a little inebriated. [Laughs] Also, with the blessing of his parents, we put The Rev in the game. Once you unlock his character, you can use him as your comrade to help you through the levels."

The game follows the band's Deathbat mascot as he reclaims the underworld from the evil Dark Andronikos. It is set for release on mobile platforms this summer.

I don't see this as selling out. If they make music they want with passion, it is not selling out. What does making a game have to do with it. I mean, i would understand if they made a game with goal to be more famous but this looks like harmless fun. If you are interested in it, you check it out and if not, don't check it out. It is really that simple. Oh yeah, i forgot, it's A7X we are talking about...
The term 'sell-out' gets banded about a lot these days. In this case though, I think its deserved.
I don't think this is selling out. Shadows is a gamer who has stated his love for gaming in interviews. He said he wanted to design a game of his own. This game has been under development for at least 2 years, so it's not like they produced this as fast as they could for a quick cash grab. Plus, Shadows has personally been overseeing the development of the game throughout its production. To me, selling out is making money for something you don't really believe in or care about. This doesn't seem like selling out.
And if it's a Diablo clone, maybe he'll get it right, unlike Blizzard on Diablo 3..
    M. Shadows is an avid gamer and has long supported the Call Of Duty franchise so it makes sense that he would want to make his own video game. I'm sure many people aged 16-30 have at one time or another thought about making their own video games, so why is it "selling out" when he does it? Are Iron Maiden sell-outs for having their own beer? What about Motorhead? Avenged Sevenfold are making all the money they'll ever need right now from their music, this is hardly stemming from a monetary line of thinking.
Call of Duty players are not real gamers, period.
Yes filthy casuals right? This game will probally be the hardest ever for me to beat, since I'd probally keep killing myself before the first stage ends.
Also the term of Rip Off because as a gamer I can tell you that I can easily recognise some models and weapons used on that game.
Well then, as an avid gamer, you probably realize that any game that doesn't totally break new ground (which hasn't really happened in the popular genres in years) is a rip off of another game in one way or more. Usually more. A lot more. Dungeon crawlers and first person shooters are the worst about it, too. It feels like they have released the same game 3000 times with slightly different skins and soundtracks in the last 5+ years.
Well they already ripped off Overkill's logo and have some questionable riffs from the latest album. Why stop there?
Sure but why not do this? like you said people already call them sell-outs. Why not have some fun with it? Above anything else they are professional musicians at the top of their game, something every single one of us here wanking each other on these message boards probably wish we were. Hate gets banded around to much these days. I am sick of this crap. It doesn't make you any better of a person to dislike a band. If you are not a 12yr old boy you all call there fan base then grow up.
Hate is needed. If we just keep saying "that's alright" to something we don't like this thing will grow. It's like having a cancer and not doing anything. Sure if we say "that's bullshit" alone, it won't do much, and the desire of the masses will prevail. But if the masses say "that's bullshit" than they will make their voice be heard. If lots of people say the same thing it's probably right, isn't it?
"If lots of people say the same thing it's probably right, isn't it?" Terrible, terrible argument.
It also doesn't make you a terrible person to dislike a band either. I personally dislike A7x to the highest order and thinks they're just out to make an extra buck off of this. Their music is also reflecting the fact that they're just trying to make money, because they're trying to appeal to 12 year old girls anymore with their music.
Don't know what you guys are so uptight about. I think this looks interesting.
If I want to play a Diablo 3 like game, I'll play Diablo 3. If I want to play a game with Avenged Sevenfold in it, I'll play CoD.
If I want to play a simplified version of Diablo accessible from my phone then I will play this game.
So they're sell outs for doing what they like? You all say? You all know that shadows is a gamer, right? They probably enjoyed doing this, not because they wanted to make money from it - I guarantee you that they aren't making anything from it. If you want to call them sell outs for doing this, then in a way, your a sellout for doing whatever it is you enjoy. In which case, **** yourself
Hahhahaha, you all hate and call them sell-outs casue they do something different. For me even making t-shirts with bands logo on it is more like selling out. It's ofc not, but I think you get my point. They won't earn to much from this. They do this for exacly same reasons why Metallica did their movie. Because they can. Because they wanted. But it's so cool to hate them. It's always been. I'm really looking forward this game, it's much more interesting for me than monopoly game based on band.
This isn't even the first time this has happened. Linkin Park have some shitty iOS game too.
I'm a really big fan of A7x. But I think I'll skip this. The fact that I like my Playstation doesn't mean i'm going to eat Sony pizza if they are going to make that.
They spent about two years developing this. Matt is an incredibly avid gamer. I mean, for years the guy has been doing interviews on gaming websites and channels... It's not really a stretch to believe that they're finally doing this. The term "sell out" does not apply here because this is something they've been pouring their passions into for a few years now. They rerecorded previous material in 8-bit and even came up with some new compositions for it. Designed the levels.. characters... wrote the story... How come if a band does something other than music, it's automatically written off as "selling out?" So many people on this site are so quick to bitch about anything... and of course they're going to put The Rev in the game. Over the years these guys have made it pretty clear that they're trying to include his memory with everything they do.
We ****ing get it, everybody in the band is an "avid gamer". No need to repeat it a thousand times, even if you think your unique snowflake insight might add something new to your comment.
Although I'm a fan of theirs, I can't defend them on this one. This is pretty lame. I do think they're a great band though and they get crapped on more than they should just because they're well-known.
That greed for money make's me feel shit about them lately... love what they done till 2011 ... but com'on , u make money of ur music a lot!!
But.. what money? I dont think they will get any bigger money form it. If any.
Eh, dungeon crawlers get boring fast. Stages are usually too big, enemies are usually too forgettable and you usually don't get the really good items/armor/attacks until you've battled through at least 1,000 boring fights, meaning the payoff is rarely worth it. Aside from that, it's a mobile game. Call me biased, but mobile games are more suited to 5 minute bursts. How many are so willing to poke-poke-hold poke for an hour and a half just to get through one level?
I know graphics don't make a game great, but those screen shots look horrible. Probably just the cheesy character designs and goofy weapons that make it cringe-worthy
