A former cop from the Port Authority area of New York has pled guilty to claiming disability benefit while on tour with his heavy metal band.

Christopher Inserra, 32, took two years off work and claimed $30,000 in benefits due to an arm injury sustained in 2010. However, the supposedly incapacitated Inserra spent his absence on tour as the singer of Brooklyn based metal band Cousin Sleaze.

As NY Daily News reports, suspicions about Inserra’s benefits claims were raised after videos of him performing with the band that showed him violently flailing and thrashing his injured arm appeared on YouTube.

The singer will have to pay £30,466 to the government in forfeiture. He may also face up to 14 months in prison when sentenced. He remains free on $25,000 bail.

Kind of harsh they let him pay in forfeiture in pounds sterling, when he received the money in dollars.
I like how he has to pay the government in two different forms of currency hah
An arm injury isn't exactly being "incapitated". You can still sing while having an arm broken! I guess what they're pissed about is the benefits thing. Still pretty cool. Dude got to be a rock star for two years. Good for him.
I think that it would be ridiculus to throw him in prison for it. Should'nt he be allowed to do what he wants when he is of duty due to sichness?
I think the point is that he had no reason to be off due to sickness if his arm is well enough to thrash around.

He was claiming disability benefits despite no longer having an injury, which they apparently have video evidence of. Collecting disability benefits when you have no injury is fraud. I think throwing him in prison for it is the wrong thing to do, but he definitely needs to repay the money he stole through honest work.
