A campaign has been raised to make Kanye West Mayor of Chicago in 2015, NME reports.
The website, which can be found at Kanye4mayor.org, was started by artist and writer Ben Shepard and includes sections on "Why?," "How?" and "Who?" alongside a justification of Shepard's serious intentions for the campaign.
Writing on the site, Shepard begins, "Why? Because Chicago is headed in the wrong direction and Mayor West could lead a movement to make it the best city in the world," before going on to list the reasons for his claims as to the suitability of the rapper.
"Nobody in Chicago is organized or powerful enough to lead the movement. 'Leading' means providing enough charisma to motivate massive public participation and enough organizational savvy to make that participation meaningful.
"The ideal candidate has three qualities. (1) They share a vision of a New Chicago for and by all Chicagoans. (2) They are famous, because fame is crystallized charismatic authority and this kind of big change needs significant authority. (3) They are not associated with existing Chicago politics and willing to use creative methods.
"Kanye West is famous, not associated with the existing power structure and clearly willing to use creative methods. There is no way to tell if he shares the vision of a New Chicago but three pieces of evidence suggest he might be: First is the fact that he grew up in the South Side and presumably understands the situation. Second are the politics implied by the lyrics and remarks as quoted all over this site. Third is the final track of 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Beautiful Fantasy' ['See Me Now']."
He then goes on to write an open letter to West, outlining the areas which he feels would be most in need of change, including schools, democracy, public transport and peace.
The current Mayor of Chicago is Democratic Party member Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who has held the seat since 2011. The next mayoral election is due to take place on February 24, 2015.
Kanye West has so far made no response to the campaign.
Ealier this week West married longterm partner Kim Kardashian in an elaborate ceremony in Florence. During his wedding speech, West called the Kardashian family "the most remarkable people of our time" and "an industry," as well as hailing his new wife as "the ideal celebrity."
