Easy. Only 4 controls to really worry about. Bump some lows, cut some highs, roll up some drive and set your level. A good basic introduction to bass overdrive that even the least tech savy could understand. If you can't figure out a 3 band eq pedal then I really feel for you haha. In combination with other OD pedals, have this in front of it in the signal chain because chances are you'll want to run this as a boost and drive, and use something else to get a clean signal and have your wet/dry combo.

Sound — 7
Very modern, very usable and surprisingly original. We all know and love the original overdrive sounds such as the SVT, Sansamp and more recently the B7K, but the boss has a very unique tone to it as in it kind of doesn't really color your sound that much. It takes all the fundamentals of your tone and boosts them without any common OD side affects like a farty low end and fizz high end. The mid range is defined, compressed, very throaty and raw, all while maintaining its clarity and punch. Low end becomes growly and elastic, keeping its growl throughout the note and smoothly backing off. How the boss affects the high end it sort of strange because you don't get that fresh "ping" going on with say a Sansamp, but a more sutble almost grindy tubey feel like from a full tube SVT or something. However if you want to max the blend, max the drive and really push it, it delivers a mean sound. Dry, angry, nice wide open grind and tension. That's exactly how I used the pedal. In combination with a ESP Bottom Bump, Orange AD200 head and the sound was pure grit. Awesome.

Unless you throw it out of a moving car I'm sure it will be fine. Well made all over. Not a fan of the stacked Blend/Level control because I can just imagine some guy with sausage hands trying to adjust it on a dark stage and screwing everything up. However that does make for a more compact device and that is always a plus. The only possible thing that could go wrong is if you took a monster hardcore stomp on stage and snapped the litte screw that unlocks the batterie compartment. But you actually managed to do that, I would be fairly impressed haha.

I was filling in for a grind'n'roll/HM2 style band for a month while on tour and this pedal was actually purchase to be used only until our pedal boards arrived because Malaysia Air lost our stuff. Needless to say we were impressed. It could almost provide as much power and tone (when maxed) as a Darkglass Vintage Deluxe and a Cali76 compressor. Really impressive stuff. The best thing about this pedal is how honest it is. With the blend at around 10-12 o'clock it really just enhances the tone and instantly allows a very usable amount of grit and overdrive. When maxed it is a beast. It can easily stand tall with the Big Muff, B3/7K and the Sansamp.
