Overall Impression — 8
For bassists who crave rock solid BC Rich tone but with a classic look, the Innovator Series is the perfect choice. Its rounded contours give the body an exceptional feel and the neck is as fast as you'll find. The Innovator doesn't have the wild body sculpting of its metal-ready cousins insted its beautiful quilted top is a model of subtle visual elegance. It works great for rock/funk and maybe even blues, but don't even consider it for jazz.
Reliability & Durability — 8
The Innovator slightly lacked midrange punch but its grind and big bottom ware effective with the band. With the EQ flat the hights are a little brittle, though easily tamed with the well-voiced treble control. This guitar lacks a 24th-fret position maker - not great but palpable flaw.
Action, Fit & Finish — 8
The five-peace laminated neck looks cool and may contribute to better stability in different weather conditions. It is very fast, the controls are well voiced, but maybe the treble control should be able to cut a little more the highs for a darker sound. Everything is good, exept strings. Impossible to tune on frets. Construction quality is above average. The only problem is a pick-up cover that clicked during fingerstyle play. The bass balanced well, not too heavy, and boasted just-right body contours and a comify neck.
