LTD B-305FM Review

manufacturer: ESP date: 01/23/2006 category: Bass Guitars
This beautiful maple figured top would be worth the price alone, but ESP's builders have gone crazy by using neck-thru construction and still kept the price like a bolt on. If you ever dreamed of owning a neck-thru, quality bass but could never think of affording it, think again!

Features: Adjustable tone, bass, mid, and treble to negative or positve. Volume control. Neck-thru five string. Mahogany body with maple-walnut and rosewood fretboard, pearl inlays, 24 jumbo frets. EMG 40 HZ pickups with active EMG B64 EQ. String thru-body bridge. // 9

Sound: She gives off a great click, humm, and pick scrape through a SWR LA15. Currently am using a BP-50 processor to give it more of an edge. The lows are great for any style of music, though funk and jazz leave something to be desired for this bass. The D and G strings can sometimes sound twangy depending on how far the down tune and what guage strings you may use for this bass. All in all, it gives out a warm sound, great articulation with the fretboard and is a miracle it is this price for this sound. // 8

Action, Fit & Finish: The bass came slightly used/refurbished at Main Street. They did do a good job in keeping it like new. No scratches, all the hardware worked as it should, the action set just enough for no fret buzz. Everything on the bass was in place and well-adjusted. Mint condition. // 10

Reliability & Durability: Though this bass is very heavy, and will put strain on your shoulder during gigs, it's well worth it. This particular bass after owning nearly a year, has survived the back of a truck, behind seats, falling, dropping, and yes, slept with. // 9

Overall Impression: ESP came out with a very affordable bass that can be used at intermediate and professional alike. The tone, EQ, pickups, body are all desirable. I have become very pleased with this bass since picking it up the first time, playing shows, and using it every day hour upon hour. A downside to this wonderful instrument is the weight. Granted, you may need a chiroprator after playing with it, but if you're good enough, you'll get the response from the crowd that you want. Worth the buy, worth the time, worth the pain. // 9
